It astonishes me how much we overpay for sports stadiums and this is a great example. Veltins-Arena was completed in 2001 at a price of €191 million. USD were actually slightly more valuable than Euros at the time, so I'll leave the exchange at 1. University of Phoenix Stadium was completed in 2006 at a price of $455 million. Veltins-Arena has a seated capacity of 54,142 and University of Phoenix is 63,400. Using the CPI to gauge inflation, Veltins cost $4,646 per seat in today's dollars and University of Phoenix cost $8,316, which is 79% more.

It depends where you build them. Also $ per seat isn't a great metric since some stadia are designed knowing crowds will be lower (ETA: UoP is expandable to 80k, has a retractable field, roof and walls). Anyway Wembley cost about the same as Jerry World, I've been to both, (although haven't been to Jerry World for a game) and without a shadow of doubt, Jerry World is better.
(Actually as a heads up, if anyone finds themselves passing through Arlington, the self guided tour of Jerry World really is awesome since you get unlimited time on the field. Get a football and a few friends and you can toss the pigskin around).

Right, but Veltins and UoP are similar size and quality and Phoenix is probably a less expensive area. I think Wembley was overpriced too, but London is a very expensive city.

Glendale does suck but it would be a great venue with a closed roof and AC. It's been 110 out over the last week though so tailgating would be miserable!
