I think it's some of both.

It probably has to do with Roman firing Ancellotti after a double and then replacing the roster every time he switched coaches afterwards and finally the spending caught up with him a bit. I mean he should have learned with Torres that you can spend whatever you want but if the player doesn't fit with the coach it's pointless.

I mean at some point we need some stability at Manager. I think we've had more managers since 2010 than UK basketball coaches in history.

We've had like 15 managerial tenures since 2004 or something like that. It's great that it has worked so far, but it's not sustainable. We don't need someone to hang around forever like Wenger, but some 5 or 6 year stints would be nice. We have an awesome guy now, and we're throwing it away. Give him what he needs to be successful for a period.

Exactly. But he also needs to not get crazy and play shite heads like Zappacosta.

I mean, he doesn't have much of a choice. He's going to be forced to play at least one underwhelming midfielder at all times. He has to rotate the outside backs to some extent. Having no rotation for so much of the year is probably why Alonso's hamstring is gone (also probably why Moses pulled his). I'm assuming Zappacosta played today because Emerson hasn't played a match in almost a year.

Can you imagine turning around and looking at your bench (at the best of times) and seeing Drinkwater, Zappacosta, and Barkley?

Exactly. Like we can say Bakayoko shouldn't be starting (he shouldn't), but his other options are just about as bad. And he has to use them because people can't play every single game. Two of the guys we signed for rotational purposes hadn't played a match since last season.

I’ve been here a day or two (This is my 11th year posting). In the Bundesliga, the teams outside of the top five are absolute garbage. The EPL is MUCH deeper. Bats is scoring against lesser competition imo. Morata is serviceable. However, he is playing in a role that doesn’t suit him. Chelsea need s target up top and he isn’t it. Giroud could be that guy but obviously isn’t a first choice. If he does fill that role, then Morata can play withdrawn, which suits him better imo. I agree that our lineup is meh, but most of it relates to our back line and Cesc. Kante is a beast in midfield but he needs some help. Two dynamic players, a handful of serviceable players, and a whole bunch of meh equals 4th place give or take.

The Bakayoko/Matic deal was much more devastating than i thought it would be. I was never impressed with Baka in the champs league last year, but i also thought Matic would be easily replaced. I was very wrong.

All that said, the squad has been severly out of form for weeks and are still keeping pace with the best of the rest.

We have gotten in our way so damn much the last ~5 years

Selling:
Lukaku
DeBruyne
Salah
Matic

Our attack would be fantastic if we would just keep our damn players.

Are you serious? With the terrible depth and quality we have across the board and you wouldn’t want all of these guys on board?

Well hindsight sure, if we were going to replace them with Danny Drinkwater's and Ross Barkley's that's different but Lukaku was acting like a punk, Salah is gross, and Matic is slower than my grandmother and will be 30 soon.

So do you want us to also sell Rüdiger and Kante because of their religion?
