let's get to what really matters here. What is the CONCACAF champions league doing to counter this power move by UEFA?

I like what Sandro Rosell is proposing. Decrease the number of teams in the top flight domestic leagues, resulting in fewer domestic games, while also increasing the number of elite european teams in the CL. This creates more matches between top tier clubs and makes the season schedule more manageable.

No way that 5 SPL teams should be making the cut though, that's fricking stupid

I like the idea of expanding the champions league. No interest in cutting the domestic league though.

I agree. How long have there been 20 teams in all of the major leagues in Europe? 100+ years? I don't see that changing.

It's not even just Champions as it is.

They need to keep the CL the same and turn the Europa into a knockout only cup.

This is a backdoor to a European Super-League.

I think the Europa League needs to be reformed, but this is a terrible idea. The first thing I would do is take away the entries for third place teams in the CL group stage.

Good idea, the CL should just be the NCAA tourney with group stages in the beginning.

ETA: to clarify I meant good idea on removing 3rd in group stages = Europa

And the europa should be the NIT, completely separate 32 teams enter single knockout cmpetition, seeding based on FIFA coefficient. Home and away is acceptable for rounds 1-3

Most domestic leagues do not have 20 teams.

He said major european leagues, SPL is not relevant.

An SPL team has won the big cup. There is talk in this plan of giving 5 SPL teams a berth in this super-league.

Is the Russian League relevant? They don't have 20.

In 1967. Hardly relevant to the modern CL. The old European Cup probably had more parity. You saw more minnows make it deeper into the tournament. You would never see a Malmo, a Steuaa Bucharest or a Red Star Belgrade team make it to the CL Final.

Could be wrong - but I read it as five spl teams could qualify -obviously there would still be the pre- qualifying like there is now. They are just saying additional teams from yhe big leagues would be able to qualify - I highly doubt they give ye spl five guaranteed spots.
