Can someone explain why the AFC gets 4 guaranteed teams in the World Cup...

There are 46 AFC and 35 CONCACAF?

I think it use to be three and a 4th would play a South American team. But when Australia moved over I think they changed it as part of the deal I'd guess.
I don't think it's too crazy. I'd say they are on par. Japan, Korea, and the Aussies all tend to field,good teams. They have more nations too.
Te statement about South America bottom feeders competing in concacaf is certainly true as well.

I honestly think the botton 3 teams in S America would compete with the top 3 spots in N America but you want the world to be represented

Africa has a lot of good teams. Whether they are actually better than CONCACAF though? Meh. We tend do to equally well at the World Cup. Maybe slightly worse.

I know FIFA rankings tend to be crap but AFC has 26, 39, 47, 57, 59....then it drops to the 90s
Concacaf is however much deeper. You don't get to the 90s until,the 12th team and they have 15 and 33

CONCACAF doesn't get 4 unless the 4th place team beats the OFC champ in the playoff.

Venezuela would definitely compete with the Honduras, panama, Costa Rica teams for 3 or 4 in the concacaf table. They've defeated Argentina and Columbia recently in qualifying.

Honestly we can all agee that Europe has the most teams with a chance to win but FIFA tends to go with depth. That is why South America gets 1/2 the continient is and the ones left out would still be favorites to get out of the group stage. That has been why soccer fans debate on why the euro cup is a harder tournament to win. I think 1st round yes. In the end though yo ure still missing too many elite teams.

"Compete" being the operative word here. This guy is acting like they would be a WC lock in concacaf.

FWIW, in the eyes of FIFA, CONCACAF is better:
UEFA/CONMEBOL 1.00 CONCACAF 0.88
AFC/CAF 0.86 OFC 0.85
Those are the multipliers for rankings

Ok reall lets go play OFC minus Australia, yes Concacaf gets 4... Now lets see if US or Mexico could qualify in S. America with the like of Agentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuadorm, Bolivia, and Paraguay...US and Mexico go up against themselves and whatever other 2 teams don't suck at that particular time for 4 spots

the Oceanic region was just the Aussie and NZ making it every time. Once Aussie left the Oceanic region lost its auto slow and plays the our 4th place when they used to have aussie get in and their 2nd place NZ would play the South American 5th.
