quote:

“Bruce Arena made decisions that cost us going to the World Cup. And I don’t have a problem saying it, because we had the right group of guys.”

quote:

Cameron was told by Arena, even before the national team convened in October for the two games, that he would not be starting against Panama or Trinidad and Tobago because of concerns about his fitness. But Cameron said he couldn’t understand that reasoning, especially after he logged a full 90 minutes in Stoke’s victory over Southampton on Sept. 30 before reporting to U.S. camp.

quote:

“It’s on us as players, but at the end of the day, I’m convinced if they would have kept Jurgen and not done such a drastic change, I think we would have qualified. I know we would have qualified. Instead we’ve gone backward.”

the best part is him saying Klins would have lead us to the WC

Yeah, it was a nice dig, don't think that part is true though.

Not even out here defending Bruce because he fricked shite up, but Jurgy would've done something similarly stupid.

I'd argue that Cameron passing almost exclusively to Costa Ricans in his last game may have played a part.

“Listen: I hold my hand up — I didn’t play well against Costa Rica,” Cameron said of a 2-0 loss in a qualifier on Sept. 1, in which his poor performance alongside Tim Ream dropped both out of favor for the October games. “I made a mistake; their second goal was my fault. But it was the 88th minute and we were down, 1-nil. I tried to do something to help the team and I got caught out.

“But I would have more respect for a coach to say: ‘You know what, Geoff? I don’t fancy you today. I think this is a better lineup.’ I’d say: ‘O.K., no problem, you told me the truth.’ But if you tell me I’m not fit enough, that’s like an insult to me as a professional.”

That’s a perfectly legit gripe IMO.

I would put my life on it, that Jurgen beats Trinidad and Tobago.

ETA: I’d probably be willing to cut my dick off to say he would at least tie.

I never felt good about the Bruce appointment and my thoughts were right. Jurgen was not doing great and I didn’t have a problem moving on from him, but Bruce is so overrated and it was hilarious the praise he got from this board.

but do we even get to that point with Jurgen, the team clearly quit on him... Bruce just wasn't the right answer.

That’s fair.

I am glad that the most embarrassing loss in our history is on Bruce’s resume and not Bob or Jurgen’s.

Bruce hasn’t done shite for the National team in some time. Bob at least almost won us a Confed Cup and Jurgen got us out of the group of death.

Bruce has headed us in our lowest achieving World Cup in some time and failed to beat like the 120th ranked team in the world to secure us a bid. He is a loser manager.

We get it, Bruce failed this cycle, but lets not ignore that 2002 Korea/Japan was the best thing that has ever happened to the USMNT

That entire World Cup was a shite show.

Thinking about it now makes me think how the 09 Confed Cup was probably fixed as well.

If this is seriously your argument against Bruce for 2002, then you can literally make that same argument against any coach that found success in any major FIFA tournament ever.

Bruce damn near screwed that up, he barely secured passage to the hex and then it took Portugal melting down in the last game to get out of the group

If McBride doesn't score in the 72nd minute against Guatemala the U.S. doesne't adavance

LINK

While Bruce's men were busy getting their arse handed to them by Poland all Portugal needed was a draw to advance but they had two men sent off and conceded in the 70th minute to put the U.S. through.
