Atsu was a bit all fluff no substance to me.
Asamoah and Gyan were the best players and the constant problems for me. Maybe Muntari too.

My highlighting Atsu was just an expression of how physically capable they were

I shudder to think what would happen if Boateng started the game. He can be amazing on his day. He played so well after he came on.

Regardless of the fact that it was going off target, his header on that slow lofted cross in the second half was insane. The fact that Howard had to make a diving save on that (again, it was going off target, but not that far off) was crazy. Fabulous header.

Yeah it's no coincidence that Ghana's goal came with Boateng creating chaos and then Kwandwo Asamoah getting loose to play in a through ball.
I'm glad it took Ghana until 70 or so minutes to figure that out for some reason.

Basically, the moral of the story for me is we played poorly and beat a legit team with some really good players.
I feel like even if we progress this is going to be a difficult watch. We won't have much possession, but we have to be slicker with our passing. We can have more possession even if we're bunkering a bit.
Johannson can't be a complete black hole, he has to improve.

By the end of the match he had improved A LOT. He was mentally not prepared for being thrown in there.

I think he was fine overall. Stylistically, I think he'll struggle to hold up the ball as well as Jozy can

I think JK went to the diamond specifically to win this game by being aggressive, but he underestimated Ghanas midfield.
Once we got the goal and Ghana proved to be so dominant, I think Bradley should have played much more patiently.
I saw a commenter on Ives saying that we played too negatively. But I didn't see that at all. They pinned us back, but as soon as we got the ball, it was off to the races again.

Yeah, and that's where we'll suffer. Jozy always holds the ball up reasonably well, and especially well for the national team. This is farther forward, and I don't remember who it was, but he destroyed one of the Ghanaian CBs (backing into him) on the edge of the area before he went off (and there's always that goal against Puyol). We don't have anyone else like that. Clint will drop deep and dig his elbow into someone when he goes up for the ball, but that's our best bet for someone to receive the ball up front. Landon could have obviously dropped deep for the ball, as well, but we don't really have a player like Jozy.

i find the difference in squad selection/managerial style between ghana and the US very intriguing.
KPB literally just does whatever the frick he wants and then the WC rolls around and he's like yeah ill do it. and they take him and play him and want him to play. compare that to the landon donovan scenario and it's pretty interesting.

That is an interesting point.
One thing to note is that our only hope is to be a really solid and unified team. Wouldn't work if you let a guy do what KPB does. Not that Landon did that.
