None of you pussies would look one of our players in the eye and tell them this tournament doesn't matter.

I'd tell them that this should have been more of a learning experience. I am more happy about finding out what our best CB pairing is than making the semis. I wish we could have seen if Nagbe or Pulisic are ready for international duty. Morris should have been here instead of Wondolowski. Hyndman should have been here instead of Beckerman. Kitchen should have gotten minutes. I feel like Jurgen took the wrong approach.

It's this thing called perspective. You don't have any.

I'd argue the opposite. The games that directly affect the World Cup have the greatest impact on our soccer culture. In 2 years when everyone would be confused why we weren't playing in the World Cup, no one would care that we played against Argentina in 2016

I don't think anyone is saying this tournament has no implications for US Soccer. Of course it does.

What we need to distinguish here is WHY our upcoming game is "big."

To increase the popularity of the USMNT, to get people excited about our team and to create some national pride, the upcoming game is MASSIVE. For once, outside of a WC, millions and millions of people may tune in for a USMNT game. This is obviously great as the USMNT is constantly being put down by Americans who don't enjoy soccer. It could really change some minds if we are successful.

However, for US Soccer to even have the opportunity to continue to grow, we need to get to the biggest stage and take on the best in the world, therefore we MUST treat WCQ as the number one priority. If we would have lost again to Guatemala last month, US Soccer would be frickED. No one would even care about the Copa because this team would be in complete shambles emotionally.

Our players play for the US to play in the World Cup. Playing in the Copa is an added bonus, and our players will obviously take it seriously. But if we don't even qualify for the World Cup, all we have to play for are things like the Gold Cup, and that would be awful for the sport in this country.

Except this wasn't going to happen, no one thought it was going to happen, and 99% of America didn't care that it was going on.

We lost to them a week before. Even another draw would have been devastating. If 99% of America didn't care then, then they really don't care now either.

Well when Gulati comes out and basically says get out of the group or get fired Jurgen doesn't really have much choice does he? Other than Wondo getting brought I don't really have a problem with any of the moves. We also learned Besler can play LB, and that Wood and Dempsey are a pretty devastating pair when played together. Also learned that Zardes has a role on this team, despite his lack of a great touch. The man produces and plays with a great hustle, intensity, and athleticism.

Coming out and getting worked with a quasi youth team would've done nothing for anyone. We have plenty of friendlies and a Gold Cup next summer to fully integrate the young guys and try more things

Yes they do. We are playing Argentina and Messi. It is going to be one of the most watched non-WC games the US has ever played most likely.

They they will be watching just for Messi and really won't care if the US wins or not.

Because there are tons of WCQs and we could lose several of them and still ultimately make the World Cup.

Trying to compare this to a WCQ is hilarious.

In the current round of WCQ, we play 6 games. We are guaranteed to play 6 games in Copa. We can lose 2 games and finish either 2nd and 3rd in Copa. If we lose against T&T on Sept. 6, we can be eliminated from the WC by having 3 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses.

Good lord man. Who cares about finishing second or third in a Cup Competition?

Who cares about 3-1-2. Next game we either go 1-0 and go to the final and beat one of the best teams in the world or we go 0-1 and go home.

You can't compare group stage games to knockout round games.

If we ever ended up in a true do or die game in WCQ it would be too embarrassing to even get hyped about it in terms of it being a big game.

2012 against Guatemala. Last game of the 3rd round. Lose that game and we are out of the WC. We won 3-1, but went down 1-0 in the 5'.

Sure but that's like saying Alabama playing Georgia State at home is a huge game because if they lose they won't go to the national championship.

This cup will have an asterisk behind the winner, and it will only add fuel to the historical Argentina-Brasil duel.
