I think even with the salary cap it can surpass the smaller leagues on the continent. The obvious exception he neglected to mention was Italy.

You are being intellectually dishonest with your argument.
These guys outside their prime are payed well over market value to play in the MLS b/c the big leagues wont pony up for them. Paying 4mil a year for a 36/37 year old Frank Lampard is absurd. 6 mil a year for Defoe, 4 mil a year for Keane etc, or the worst one is 2.5 mil for Marco Di Vaio.
and yes some players do play in Brazil or Argentina for example Seedorf and trezeguet in older age to wind down their career but like Broski said we have a better standard of living and will pay them for more than what they are worth.
The A-League does the same thing but MLS is significantly better than that trash downunder.

O for sure thats def going to happen with the improvement of our home grown talent and keep grabbing players out of central american while doing our best to get euro players who would usually play in the 2nd division in England,Spain, Germany, Italy etc. Right now id say the league is around the level of the Belgium league which their system ever since its been overhauled has been very productive leading to their golden generation and seems to keep cranking out players.

There was no intellectual dishonesty in my argument. I was out front and said these guys were past their prime. Does that mean these guys aren't worth the money even if they're paid above fair market value? Beckham certainly was. He put butts in seats everywhere he went and won championships. The fact that we can pay above fair market is one of my points. If MLS gets good because America is awesome, then MLS still gets good. What do you think I meant by economic and demographic factors?
A player can in Europe and pay 60% of his salary in taxes and he can play in the greatest country on earth and pay 40% in taxes. Thierry Henry can live in a city he's always loved and ride the subway without being harrassed by fans. These factors are relevant, just like the UCL is relevant.

That's cute and all but the euro clubs can pay tax free bonuses and incentives.
Also the bigger the MLS gets the less of being able to move around and not be recognized will happen.

USA players going to europe usually leads to a career ending move. I'd rather see Americans stay and play in MLS where they actually get to play. Playing in MLS beats bench sitting in Europe EVERY time.
