Yeah my issue is the waiting a year to hire him. I'm not sure it's the right hire, but it would've helped no matter what if it was a year sooner.

1) What does Earnie as the GM do?

2) You think it was wise to have Dave Sarachen implementing a 4-1-4-1 for a whole year? We accomplished nothing in 2018 when we could've had a permanent coach in place and establishing his culture a full year in advance.

USSF botched everything from the moment we lost to Trinidad.

Earnie didn't take over until August 2018.

Crazy to think that he’s been in place less than a year.

That did not answer the question.

What does he do and why did his hiring delay the coaching hiring?

I agree with everything here. Gulati should've resigned the day after that.

What if the Men’s team is intentionally looking bad to help build the “women should be paid more” narrative?

I literally have no idea what we're doing or trying to do on the pitch as a team.

No one wanted the president to directly hire the coach. Everyone clamored for separation between the two position, so insert a GM. You don't hire from the bottom up. You have to go President -> GM -> Coach. We couldn't get a new president until the vote in mid-February 2018. They have to take a little time to formulate the GM position (all the while traveling the world securing votes for the 2026 WC). They then hire a GM in June, but they agree to let him wait to take over until August, once the MLS transfer window closed so he could tie up loose ends in Philly. Gregg agrees to the job in November, they announce in December once his season is over. The interim manager's contract ran out at the end of the year, so they let him finish his last camp.

Could they have moved quicker? Sure, but not much quicker. It was always going to take time when you had to fill 3 positions in the hierarchy.

This is hella straw man.

No one wanted Sunil to make the hire. The hope was that our next president would have the ability to make a sound hire, you know like every other international federation.

Instead we got Sunil puppet Cordeiro who was elected in February of 2018.

Berhalter wasn't hired until December of 2018. In the time between, an arbitrary GM position was created to make a hire and that meant we went a full year with Dave fricking Sarachen and it completely stagnated our program, giving it no direction and no hope a year after we reached our lowest point.

Will Parchman said it best on twitter. The worst thing about the USMNT over the last year is that after a match loss, you don't see much complaining, you just don't see really much of any reaction anymore outside of a few diehards.

Apathy has set in with the program and it is stunting our growth immensely.

Do you seriously not remember the outcry for fewer presidential powers, including being the sole guy in charge of hiring firing the coach?

Part of that has to do with essentially using a U23 team for a calendar year. Hard to get too upset about a team of 21 year olds losing.

Growth of what. Monetarily? Sure. It has nothing to do with results on the field or the development of players at their clubs. If anyhing, its making the young guys try harder, because they see that there are opportunities to grab a roster spot.

I’ve gotten to the point where I just feel nothing watching the USMNT. Little excitement or anger. Just apathy. That’s all they deserve from fans right now. Our three best players are 20, because our lost generation was complete trash, and we are in all-out rebuild mode getting smacked around by a baseball country just days before our first competitive game in almost two years.

I have no confidence in anyone from the USSF to run our federation. They make the Louisiana State gov’t look competent.

Watching the national team just puts me in a bad mood and makes me question why I enjoy this sport. Watching the growth of our domestic leagues and youth development is the only thing keeping me engaged right now. It’s the only thing that keeps me hopeful. I’m still optimistic for the sport in this country, but it’s gonna be rough watching the USMNT for a while.

That's just where we are. It was never going to be a 2 year fix.

If that's the case, why not take Sargent? This tournament means nothing on the grand scale. Getting him acclimated to international football in a FIFA sponsored event is where young players can grow. Instead, the U.S. takes Zardes

Because we're still only about a year away from starting qualifying. It's why we can't just kick Bradley and Jozy to the curb, either. Part of the reason why I think Zardes is still there is because the staff knows what they are getting with him and they do want to do their best this summer. Sargent is probably too inconsistent right now and has played 7 minutes since March. Didn't play a full 90' all season for WB, so there's also maybe some concern about match fitness. Ultimately, they probably see Zardes as the safer pick over the course of the next ~6 games.

I understand keeping Jozy around as I think he is still our best forward. You will never convince me that taking Zardes over Sargent is the right move.....ever.

frick it. I’ve moved beyond my Josh Sargent being left out anger, and I’m now thankful. I would feel sick if he were to pick up some significant injury in this shite tournament and be out for months, holding him back at Bremen.

Same goes for pulisic and Adams, and I guess mckennie. I’ll I’m hoping for at this point is that those players make it through this bullshite of getting hacked to death by concacaf trash, and come out the other side relatively unscathed. Everyone else...you’re expendable, and can basically diaf.

And that's the golden lining, although he probably wouldn't have been in much danger with few minutes. Go on vacation, rest up, get your mind right, and hit the ground running later this month.
