Confirmed by many sources on Twitter. Shame because everyone knew how badly he wanted to play. Reports circulating that Micah Richards, Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy will be the age exceptions.

If true, great that Giggs gets a crack at a big tournament after so many disappoinments for Wales. Also nice to see that it won't be entirely an English squad.

This sucks. They should have picked Becks. Form or not, come on. It's the Olympics. England has a great squad anyway and this would have been a perfect way to say goodbye (to the UK) for a guy who has done so much for the sport not just in his country but around the world.

The reason they should have picked him to me, is that he was instrumental in their bid FOR this olympics.

That being said they picked 3 pretty good exemptions.

I know Bellamy is Welsh. Just don't have any extra feelings of happiness for him as I do Giggs.

The rest of the squad hasn't been announced as far as I can tell.

I'm sure he'll request to attend, and Galaxy will end up having to play without him for three weeks.

Even though I understand the choice, it is rather sad. David Beckham has kept his English bros attractive to women and getting laid worldwide for years now. I think I'd have put him in the squad. I mean, if they're going to lose, they might as well do it with style, right?

I was kidding. I always hope England does well as I spent many days watching the English play with my ex's dad.

I don't think anyone knows what to expect, England haven't had an Olympic team in a very, very long time.

Unbelievable they would take Bellamy over Beckham.

especially considering there are a number of great striking choices that are of the correct age.

Reports that no Scottish or Northern Irish players have been selected. Team will be comprised of English and Welsh players only.

Had a glance at GB's women's squad and it's 17 English and 1 very lonely woman from Scotland.

I'm seeing 2.. but I was going to look her up and link a good picture and say something along the lines of.. "I'd help her out with that loneliness problem"... but do not want to both of them
