Yea Southampton always seem to give us trouble. I'm just happy we won. I know we aren't looking so hot going forward but the new formation has made us much stronger defensively(not counting the Spurs match).

If Holding, Gabriel, Mustafi, Kos, and Monreal are all fit for the final who are y'all going with?

I think putting Nacho in Gibbs' spot and having a back 3 of Gabriel, Kos, Holding would be our best bet.
Idk though, I only watched the first half hour of the game today so I'm not sure if Mustafi is back or really back yet.

Mustafi had his best game in a long while. That foul he gave up was a clean tackle. But having the extra man on d let's him be more agressive and win the ball back higher up the field.

Sucks for ox, he's been great.

Still prefer Monreal over Gibbs, but Monreal was solid as ever at cb today.

Sanchez gets to 20, and Giroud continues to be solid off the bench.

Good win really. Just got to keep pushing.

Brilliant goal from Alexis. Brilliant ball to Ramsey and brilliant header by Ramsey to Giroud for the second.

But I've given up on the 3-at-the-back experiment. It's not really doing anything for us. We still are suspect defensively and stale going forward. Cech has been playing well to shore up our defense.

We are stuck in our ways of having Giroud up top. Sending crosses in from the wing backs.

Not 100% sure, but that headed goal might have moved Giroud ahead of benteke of most headed goals in the premier league since joining.

I'm good with the three, two clean sheets against two teams Arsenal struggles with. Think about last year or several years now, Arsenal already had their half backs play high, leaving you with mertesacker and kosc or various shitty cbs. Our holding midfielder was arteta or flamini. Having 2 of those as your last line of defense is exactly why we would get completely ran off the field at times.

The speed and athleticism just wasn't there. Now xhaka has been excellent as of late, I mean he's really growing on me now. It's possible they revert back to the back 4. But you need xhaka at the top of his game protecting the two cbs when bellerin or Monreal are way up the field. If not, Arsenal will continue to ship goals.

To be honest, Alexis is also a reason our attack has been shitty. He once again gave the ball away all first half, but then he's capable of that one moment. I believe he will be on his way out this summer, regardless if Arsene stays or not.

Yeah I saw this earlier. I don't really think I agree with it, at least not the conclusions. First of all this one of the toughest stretches of fixtures it's possible to have, so it's a small sample size in general. Tottenham is really an outlier, take that away and we're basically equal on expected scored and conceded. I also think some of the expected goals conceded aren't really taking things into account, I mean Southhampton had two decent chances to score, one was a 26 yard shot and the other Cech was off his line really quickly. Leicester had some goal mouth scrambles off long throws. Man U had the bad back pass that Rooney almost capitalized on.

I think the back 3 does a good job limiting our exposure on the counter/break/crosses against mediocre attacking teams. Teams that earlier in the year we're getting 1-2 goals on us through counters or crosses where we didn't have enough defenders back. I also think, at least for the rest of this year, this formation really suits Ramsey and his forward runs. He's looked more dangerous these past few games since maybe all the way back to 2013/14 season. Until we can make a move in the summer and get a more complete player, I think against Stoke/Sunderland/Everton the back 5 is the way to go to stop dumb goals, and going forward we'll get at least one those teams aren't that great defensively

I agree about Alexis being gone this summer, and I am kind of happy about it. He reminds me of Russell Westbrook. Both are ball hogs who put up crazy good numbers but do very little for their teammates (even though they have the assist numbers). They both murder team chemistry. OKC will not win anything with Russ, and I'm afraid Arsenal cannot win the league with Alexis as our best player. Giveaways/turnovers always override assists when it comes to gauging a player's value.

Hell right after I declared our high school team the Arsenal of Alabama ( zero state championship half dozen red trophies and losing last two years in quarterfinals to inferior teams despite being uo 2 goals in both games and having an all black club and ODP team), more talent than anyone yet can't put it together. Questionable coaching moves, lack of effort and heart etc. Nice prep kids you would want to date your daughter etc We are the arnsenal of Alabama.

They go on a winning streak WTF ?

They go

Maybe Rambo was dropped because of the bad history at Stoke?
Wish he would've stayed. He's been good these last couple weeks

We should take this now. This stoke side isnt quite the same that troubled Arsenal for the past 6 years or so.
