The Don is watching, keep that head on a swivel.

Seriously, great thread and what promises to be a great season.

I'm so excited. I read this thread multiple times per day but rarely post. I may have to start posting more often. I have a strangely optimistic feeling about this season. And to pull a line out of your book, glass... I love this team!

Requiem for a picture.

Goodbye glorious trio of comedic geniuses, and part-time footballers.

Nice.. Never forget Arshavin's 4 at Anfield.

He was never played in his rightful position because of Cesc.

Brilliant screen name.

1. Arsenal
2. Arsene
3. And then of course, because I'm an a-hole.

I thought for sure it would have been taken already.

he's got to go on loan somewhere. not near physically mature or tactically mature enough to be a CB. especially one we might have to rely on.

A loan would be nice, but I don't think he's all that far from being able to contribute. He just needs game time.

Manquillo would be a really odd buy, but I wouldn't mind him. He has even less experience than Jenkinson did at 20. I honestly don't see the point.

it's underrated, no doubt. Was sad to see it missed out on Nola.com's top ten bar lists this week.

isn't a great sign of how we view jenks IMO. though if the rumors are true (jenks loan and manquillo loan/option to buy), that gives us the flexibility to keep jenks if he can show some real development starting for a full season in the PL, while maintaining the option of moving onto waiting for another talented youngster.

I don't think he's played all that badly when he's been given a run of games. It's true he doesn't fit into the attacking game that we want to play, but he's gotten much better. I would like to remind people that Mertesacker could barely make a forward pass a season or two ago and now he's much more comfortable on the ball.

I think it would be a real silly decision to buy another RB with much less experience than Jenkinson and waiting/hoping for him to develop.

From what little I've read about Manquillo, I'm skeptical that this will go through. I imagine that Newcastle or someone else wants Jenkinson on loan, and he needs game time, so we want to loan Manquillo and include a buy clause just in case we like him a lot.

i don't think it's silly if it's a loan/option to buy situation. we've got debuchy for 3+ years. if we don't think jenks is the answer, especially after a year of PT which everyone agrees he needs, and can get an extended try-out from a talented prospect, seems fairly low risk to me.

You right, but I just like Jenkinson a lot and hope he makes it. I wish English players were willing to go out on loan abroad, as it would be useful for him to play in some CL ties as well. I think he's clearly a PL quality RB, I actually think he should be on the England team, considering they've had poor RB play from Johnson, but he could do with the seasoning that comes from Champions League.

Obviously if he can get 30 games in the PL that would be amazing. His athletic talent is so immense that I would hate it if he puts it all together a year after we give up on him.

Exactly. Playing in a more tactical league would be massive for an extremely athletic player. Spain or Italy would do him so well.

So this transfer season already has been weird. We buy Sanchez which funds Suarez's move to Barcelona, which weakens one of our rivals and improves us tremendously. Debuchy seems like a done deal. Now we are linked with Khedira, who isn't necessarily the DM we need, though I wouldn't mind him. I'd much rather Schneiderlin. And we might get Remy on top of the CB and GK we already need. If we buy all the players we need to buy, I would argue it would be the greatest summer Arsene Wenger has ever had, all funded by the new commercial deals. 2013 was the year that Wenger always targeted as the date the shackles came off, and now we see him spending rather audaciously. It's a weird, weird summer. It's like before the Ozil signing, Wenger was afraid to get into the deep end, but now he seems content to swim there if he needs to.

I agree. plus, on the sentimental side, he's a lifelong gooner. would be crushing for him.

I agree with that wholeheartedly. I mean, khedira and Rambo have as good of motors as anyone, but they will both be exposed at some point. maybe if we didn't have per and had a neuer/lloris-esque sweeper GK we could play a higher line and it might work. as long as we have per though, we'll need someone positionally disciplined to sit in front of the back four.

Lars Bender and scheiderlin would be my favorites. sven bender wouldn't be awful either. surely leverkusen can't keep lars AND cristoph kramer. speculated to hendo earlier that kramer would have been a early Emirates era-AW buy. maybe he hasn't lost the desire to develop a young talent into a world class player.

You are right in that we can't play with two B2B midfielders as long as we have Per. BFG is a good CB, but I do miss the days where we could play a high line. What I don't miss is the inconsistent pressing of the ball that occurred which resulted in passes over the top again and again. It's a trade off. We have to start looking for long term replacements for both Per and Kos, as it doesn't look like we have any in the youth ranks other than maybe Hayden. I would love for a player like Marquinhos to flame out at PSG and for us to swoop in and get him. I also straight up wouldn't mind Agger if 'Pool let him go. I really would like someone like Aymeric Laporte, especially if we are going to insist on spending the big bucks going forward.

I wouldn't mind Kramer, but I'm rather excited by the squad number given to Zelalem, which leads me to believe he has a part to play this season, and I don't want a player to hinder his development. The more I've watched him at the youth level, the more he reminds me of Sergio Busquets. I know others want him to play the no. 10, and my god does he have some amazing vision, but I strongly feel he'll break through in Arteta's role before he does in the no.10 role. I want to see more of his passing range, as he seems reluctant to switch the field. But his ability on the ball is so good.
