That leaves us with less defensive depth than I would like.

it's the exact same as last season. we'll replace tv5 if he leaves. chambers probably isn't as good a CB as sagna but otherwise, we're probably better off (considering our starting RB isn't our 4th string CB).

not sure the point of keeping bellerin around for a handful of COC matches and u21 action. he needs more. he needs to be pushed. if a injury catastrophe happened, many of those deals have call back provisions.

Looks like Arsene has no plans to sell Campbell. Just think, Giroud, Ozil, Theo and Poldi havent played a second of pre season. Looks as if we have some attacking depth this year boys. Some promising words about Sanogo as well.

quote:

“Sanogo came last year on a free and we worked very hard for six months with him and from January onwards he was slowly getting better. “Now that we have worked very hard with him, we want him to stay here. If you look at his goal scoring record before he got injured, it is quite frightening. “For a while when he came back last season, he could not score. You could see when he scored the first goal today, suddenly they came raining. I especially liked the third goal he scored, it was really the goal of a striker of quality. He has a big future here, or course, he is 21. “He has something of Adebayor. He is strong, a strong body, similar strengths, but as well technical skill.”

Wake me up Yaya Sanogo!!!!

I just wonder if hes the first off the bench at rb or is chambers or flamini? Because if he is ur first choice then with 50+ games there are plenty for him to play. Also one injury and we could be really screwed.

I don't think he's our choice to be debuchy's backup. chambers will be on the bench because he can cover at both RB and CB and it'd kinda shock me if HB got PT in the instance of a debuchy injury.

yup. interested to see how we lineup since alexis was CF and akpom RW yesterday. wonder if he and giroud play the 4-4-2ish variant we played last year with alexis occupying the ozil role or if alexis is a true winger in this match.

he's only playing 45. i'd imagine the same for giroud, debuchy, monreal, chambers, and kos.

Not the most impressive first half to say the least. Did we register a shot on goal?

When we play Wilshere and Ramsey together Wilshere seems to see more of the ball as well which isn't ideal

I've just been more of an attentive fan the last 2 years, and it really doesn't look like Arteta brings that much to the squad, why don't we get a replacement for Him? He looks slow and unimpressive in this match.

we pretty much played a 4-1-4-1. he was way more isolated than he normally is. he can't play that role.

many of those guys playing today hadn't been back in training particularly long. yesterday's team was much sharper and fitter.

arsene said giroud was very short of fitness and that he probably wouldn't start the charity shield. can't imagine sanchez would either. in that regard, i was quite impressed by debuchy's showing.

i don't love monreal, but his issues today were compounded by the fact he played quite a bit yesterday.

had a few bright moments in attack, but these guys will need some time to gel. very surprised at how comfortable chambers looks at CB and sanchez looks at CF. chambers can really pick a pass.

Can't believe they make the teams play on back to back days. I don't care who you are that is very tough.

Yea a number of them looked exhausted out there today. I get nervous about them getting hurt playing so much so early in the season but then again I'm an engineer not a trainer.

Boring match, few players not fit yet, really really impressed with chambers.

Arteta is just getting old, can't be isolated in front of the back or we will struggle against good teams. We could use kondogbia, not as skilled as pogba, but could be a cheaper option. But arteta was a late signing when we just let anyone worth a shite in midfield go. He has been our best player, was 2nd in tackles per game behind Ramsey and the first few seasons he pretty much was a pass machine and I would have put him up against anyone in Europe. He now has physical litations and teams worth their salt put a lot of pressure on arteta knowing for years he was our outlet. When he first signed, if he wasn't playing, we lost. Its time to move on, but he held this team together, and in my eyes still one of the best players to never play for his country.

Its only preseason, but whoever plays on the left has to at least try to play defense. Doesn't matter who our left back is if he doesn't get help.

Chambers was our best player over 120 minutes. His long passing was outstanding, as was his positioning. He'll be an excellent third CB, though I'd prefer some experience ahead of him.

Alexi looked much better down the center than out wide, but you can see how the team is figuring him out and vice versa. Plenty of good ideals but not on the same page.

Zelalem continues to impress me. Two brilliant through balls in a row, one that should have been a PK. His future is bright.

Thrilled with how our youngsters played, the senior players looked sloppy and out of form but that's to be expected.

ETA.

MATT LAW: Wenger made it clear after Arsenal game that he has signed Calum Chambers as a centre back or central midfielder - not really a right back

And that still brings me to bellerin. If we sell vermalaen, chambers will start at cb at some point just to give kos and per rest so there are plenty of opportunities for him to get game time in an Arsenal shirt this season. Not just crap one cup.

What's disappointing is that ideally a backline of Chambers and Kos should accommodate him. He's just not fast enough. We should never play a high line if he or Mertesacker are on the field. I don't mind defending deep, as I think we have the players to counterattack.

We looked tired for this match but we should have done better. I really like the look Kondogbia. I would love it if we could sign him. Also I think their midfielder Bakayoko will be a player in some seasons.

It's going to take awhile to gel, especially if we buy more players. Chambers looks really good at CB, and he might be an option at DM, as I don't think it's a good bet to rely on Arteta and Flamini the whole season.

Bellerin was superb vs. Benfica but I don't think he'd hold up for long with Hazard or Sterling running at him.
