remember how much passion and toughness Viera brought to the team? not comparing the two players at all, just commenting on the need of toughness, especially through the "spine" of the team (keeper, CB, CM, CF, etc.)

I would take Vidal, just don't think it would happen. Again we have too many players that play centrally. So if a guy like Sanchez or Walcott get hurt, we are left with nothing on the wing IMO. Sure you can play welbeck, but that leaves us with no back up options at striker. I just think other areas can be strengthened.
As it stands rt now you have 7-8 players that can play that central midfield role. Coquelin, cazorla, Ramsey, Wilshere, arteta, Flamini, ox, and chambers. If you believe Arsene invisions guys like ox and chambers in that holding role.

Ox, Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky, Welbz, Santi, and Ozil can play on the wing. Ramsey and the Ox played there more this past season than Theo did.

Rosicky couldn't even get on the field and was healthy. I'd love to have Vidal, but not if we aren't going to splash more cash some where else.

Vidal rumors, unsurprisingly, turned out to be complete rubbish.
ETA: I honestly think CM isn't a necessity purchase this summer. We have Coq as the DM anchor. If he goes down, we have Arteta for depth, and I really think the Ramsey-Wilshere pivot can and needs to work. Add in Santi, Rosicky, Ox, Chambers in a pinch, and I think we're okay. I wouldn't mind a depth buy, but I don't think the purchase is necessary.

Ozil and Sanchez weren't needs at the time of their signings. Two world class players were available and we got them. Cech is one as well, but we need another infield world class player to compete on all fronts. Adding better players to an already deep squad is great and I don't care what position we do it in.
