I believe Leauxgan referred to Beast as a "Goddamn Goddamn."

Nope you hit the nail on the head. And that was when the Pool/Arsenal love affair was in full swing on this board. It hasn't been the same since.

Well what can I say, Arsenal is going to be in some serious shite if they don't sign some people. At this rate they might struggle to get 4th place.

Nah.. This is our best team since 2009/2010. Arsenal will be a title contender for the first time in 4 seasons.

I am. Third behind y'all and City at this point going into the season. Depends on what happens in the next couple of weeks.

But you didn't improve from last season, you are just banking on coaching changes not working. That's the only reason I'd consider Arsenal a true contender.

Chelsea finished like a game ahead of us and city finished two games ahead of us. Hardly insurmountable considering the team has had an entire year to gel, and we have a lot of key youth contributors set to improve

ETA: we didn't play our entire first team in either of these two games. Whenever we even played 60% first team we out scored opposition 3-0. Whenever we had capital one cup guys on we got our scored 4-0. Not really indicative of the upcoming season

What have you done to improve your squad?

Seriously? You can make up two or three games through luck alone. One shot hits a post in one game, a linesman misses an offsides in another all of the sudden that game deficit is made up. Injuries also play a factor when teams are this close. Mata has some injury issues and cazorla stays 100% healthy all of the sudden arsenal is the better team.

From Jan 1 through the end of the season, Arsenal accumulated more points than any other squad (39)... Full disclosure, Arsenal played one more game than Man U. Full info below.

Premier League Games in 2013:
Club - Points - Games - Points/game
Arsenal - 39 - 18 - 2.16/game
Man Utd - 37 - 17 - 2.17/game
Chelsea - 37 - 19 - 1.95/game
Man City - 33 - 17 - 1.94/game
Tottenham - 33 - 17 - 1.94/game

An Arsenal squad that had lost its best player and captain and had an entirely new lineup, new faces and no real experience playing together had a dismal first half of the season. But by mid season, the team gelled and played much better.

I'd still feel more comfortable if we made one or two 'real' signings... players who can contribute. But this team played really well the second half of last season, which gives confidence.

Key players having another year in the system, benching TV5, bought another international level LB in January, and have the most depth we've had since the 2004 team. No new signings this summer of note, but we've gotten rid of fringe players and our promising young players are a year older. There is a reason to be optimistic, though I still think we are two signings away from challenging.
