According to a bleacher report article (sorry), he can be bought for 40 mil euros no questions asked. We have the first option buy-back so idk if that gets us a reduced fee that only Cesc can turn down. It also claims that ManU and Chelsea are the only 2 other realistic destinations with City's FFP.

Also wanted to note that his buyout clause is 200 mil

ETA: LINK to BR article

ETA2: Also, "supposedly" Arsenal coaching staff is trying to convince Arsene to sign Cesc

He's really good and a former Arsenal great but there's absolutely no need. The definition of a luxury purchase in the position Arsenal need reinforcing the least. Sentiments aside it seems like way too silly of a purchase and would dry up way too many funds.

If Cesc was brought back, this is how I could see Arsene trying to get everybody to play. I just don't think Ozil is that effective anywhere besides the middle.

On one hand that's true, on the other we only had like 5 games when everyone was healthy. Imagine if we had had fabregas to step in when ozil and Ramsey got hurt, or better yet rotated those 3 throughout the season and never had an injury crisis

yeah, i either mentioned in here or in the transfer thread that balague has waffled on the Cesc-Arsenal buy back issue. yesterday he had some condescending sentence aimed at arsenal fans believing there was a buy back clause saying there was none. then he pretty much reposted the same story today but editing that part and saying there was a clause, but that it was worthless. i'm not sure he's the go to source on that issue.

@GeoffArsenal swears by a 25m figure, which, hell yeah i'll take him at that price. he also says if we balk, we get half of the profits of his sale.

a formation with cesc at false nine, theo and vela? griezmann? somebody?? on the wings would be pretty stellar imo. couldn't do it against some teams, but that's a tactical variation i'd very much like to see.

Cesc and Ozil are so dynamic with their movement that it could work with a DM, but it would have to be a pretty special DM.

Also considering our injury history, buying Cesc isn't a luxury buy at all. We need him to help us break down big teams. If we get one more runner into the side we could look amazing next year.

I know this topic is a little redundant ... but it appears Sagna has officially finished his medical and signed with City.

If his contract reports are true ... i cannot blame the guy one bit. Arsenal offered 2 year 75k, City offered 3 year ~150k.

I don't believe a single thing any UK/European media has to say about transfers ... ever!

Does anyone actually believe this claim? I also read a story today that said Milner wants out of Citeh because they only play him wide and he wants to play in central midfield.

Of course I still read the stories and check in on who we're being linked with, but I don't ever believe a word of it until something is announced on Arsenal.com.

Not directing anything toward you OBU for posting this, as I know you just pass along tidbits that appear in the news from time to time. Just giving my thoughts on how journos over there report on transfer dealings.

well, at least with more reputable outlets, generally the stories are true, or at least calculated at some level by the club/player leaking the info. you just have to be aware of the hierarchy of English journalism.

1st tier: Times. if they actually report something, it's a done deal.

2nd tier: guardian and telegraph. the telegraph arsenal beat writer is pretty good. these guys generally don't make baseless stories, but they're often being used by whatever party linked the info.

3rd tier: mirror, daily star, etc. sometimes they'll get lucky because if you throw enough shite, some will stick. unreliable but fun for banter.

4th tier: ITKs

this story came from the telegraph. probably a leak by arsenal to gauge his interest. I don't think he'd do that, plus its an awful idea. him transitioning into a schweiny-type seems more realistic. would rather not get him.

The problem I have is cesc could gave stayed and probably have progressed more under arsenes tuteledge. He def would have played more. I don't blame him for leaving, but you know its possible the drought doesn't happen if we hold on to him. But this season was great and I love this team. Do we get ozil if cesc is still with us? Does Ramsey get the opportunity to come of age? Lots of things could have changed.

Ugh, just makes me mad. We were so fricking good. You forget how far Theo has come. Dude is deadly. Jack driving us forward in the early going and Ramsey is a god. The title should have been ours.

I love our chances next year if we buy depth and stay healthier.

I gotta imagine we're due some good injury karma.

Man watching the first 4-5 minutes of that video just reminds you how unbelievably well Ramsey was playing before he got hurt.

Also, although he disappeared against the better sides, Giroud did some serious yeoman's work for us up there all by himself for an entire season.

my very realistic summer (not my dream summer ) is Cesc, Mandzukic, Aurier, Griezmann or Vela, Schneiderlin, a young CB and a GK (literally anyone who can keep szcz at least partially motivated).

this article mentions an interesting possibility, perhaps we can use Vela as a bargaining chip to get Griezmann

Being reported by the Metro and some Italian media that Arsenal have now put in an initial bid of £18 million for Griezmann. Who knows if it's true or not, but interesting nonetheless.
