What a shitty game. I hate playing not to lose (by 3)

we acted like we had no idea we needed a goal when down 1-0.

not playing theo at all (he should have been on before their first goal) was as big a mistake as Pellegrini not putting on aguero yesterday.

I'm officially going to be mad every game Walcott doesn't play from now on. Also on the "I love giroud but we need a better striker not just one to complement him" wagon. The same way I feel about Colston and the saints

having theo there will really help him IMO. having no speed in our XI really hurts our overall attack because defenders can squeeze on him more with no fear of someone speeding behind.

I hate to say this but what is the use of having a squad depth, when we don't use it?

Looking at the squad recently, I don't think we would use Ox, podolski, walcott or Gnabry at all even if they are fully fit. And god knows when Vermaelen might start again for us.

Squad rotation is not a bad thing to do, especially when we have a hectic schedule like this.

We might need a few bad results before Wenger realizes the 5 CAM isn't feasible everygame

i keep thinking he'll use it but it's frustrating he hasn't. walcott was slowed down by illness, but presumably he's over it now.

he really needs to start Saturday.

also, baccy being back would be huge. wonder if Wenger goes with Monreal v. Navas due to his experience going against him.

i'd go

szcz
baccy-per-kos-gibbo
arteta-ramsey
theo-ozil-jack
giroud

Theo was needed as a halftime sub. Napoli was ripe for the counter playing as high up the pitch as they were. Still took a shitty goal from Dortmund to push us out of first. Record setting performance to knockouts, first time we have given up two goals from the run of play all season. It took a BS second yellow on Arteta for that to happen.

Bring them on, I don't care. Saturday and a result is the only thing that really matters.

I think Arteta needs a match on the bench (nothing to do with his red card, I just don't think he's been consistently good this season so far)

I'd go

-----Giroud-----
Jack-Ozil-Rosicky
-Ramsey-Flamini--
usual back 5 if Sagna is 100%

I don't want to start theo for the first time back in a game of this magnitude, bring him in in the 60th minute.

God dammit.

I'll go back and re-read the thread, but I wanted to spout off how pissed I am before reading anyone else's opinion. Just finished watching recording.

I hate playing not to lose by three. shite, play the game. You get a goal, and it's done.

The thinking was obvious. Napoli was going to play a high line, high pressure, so Arsene wanted to protect the back four with two holding players, while maximizing what he got in the attack in terms of both defensive tracking and ability to play in tight spaces.

And it was stupid.

He basically said, yeah, we can't win this tournament, but we can get to the next round. Hell, if you aren't going to play to win the whole tournament, just bow out now.

Hated bringing on Monreal when we did. Yeah, they scored just as he was about to come on. Pull him back and get Theo out there. Then, if they get a second, put Monreal in.

ETA: I'll cut the negativity. Literally just finished watching. Glad we advanced. Hate that we put ourselves behind the ball by not playing for just one goal.

We need a better striker to compliment Ozil.

Ozil needs runners. Giroud doesn't make runs until the ball gets wide. When he does, he's not fast enough to outrun his marker most of the time.

I'm hoping we see Theo and Ozil together soon, so Ozil has someone to create space for. Today was such a shite show. Enjoyed the way Kosc and Per played in the first half, but you can't ask those guys to do that 90 minutes.

Arsene showed no balls today.

Arteta plays much worse when he's with Flamini. I thought Flamini was pretty good today, but he eats up the areas Arteta naturally drifts to. Mikel looks lost at times when Flamini is out there.

Yep, just like Jurgy's USMNT formation with Jermaine Jones and Beckerman together. In both cases, it's a "play not to lose" formation and it never works.

So which draw would be the best of a bad lot?

PSG?

Good question, we def could have helped ourselves out by winning our group. Tough road to the finals.

But like the great Ric Flair once said ... If you want to be the best, you've got to beat the best! Woooooo!

And to answer your question, I would enjoy a PSG matchup.

Um we would be knocked out of the cl rt now if it wasnt for his ability to break up play. rewatch the game and you will notice how many times he had to bail out gibbs and jenks. Both didnt play that well imo.

But game is over we moved on, now its time to keep the distance at the top of the table.

Honestly though, Giroud was outplaying higuain. Well until the goal. Thing about giroud is he needs better service than what he was getting. hes not going to create chance for himself. But his hold up play is phenomenal. Did you see when he took that ball down on the sideline then split the defenders? The shitty ref called it out, but that was some skillz rt there.
