Defending deep and counter at pace unsettles teams, and then we have the ability to press to win the ball quickly if we need to. Add to that the ability to break down teams while holding possession, and that's a pretty impressive team.

i really can't wait for us to get a more athletic striker in the summer (maybe in January). i love Giroud, but the way we're set up, this team would be unreal with [INSERT STRIKER HERE], Theo, Ozil and co. hauling arse every time we win the ball.

Benteke

And congrats to DVTG.. 3,900 posts before in the thread before December 4th. Guys looks like a woman's touch and luck helped with the season thus far.

I love Giroud as well, and with the way we dominate possession, he is the striker we need the majority of the time. But looking around world football there isn't a striker I've seen yet (that we already haven't been linked to) that would fit this 2nd striker role. The skills this player would have to have would be hard to come by. Skill on the ball to participate in build up play, strength to hold play up, and speed to break at will. You might have a good or great player if they possess two of these, but a player with all these types of capabilities is a unicorn. I'm sure we can find someone, but I'm not optimistic.

Who do you think looks good?

Blast me, but Chicharito is pretty damn fast and when on form puts himself in some great goal scoring areas.

i'm not sure who i *really* covet at this point besides maybe suarez. i wouldn't mind rooney, costa, benteke, kruse, or rossi among players i've seen.

i kinda think if we got draxler AW might consider putting him up top. (not to mention a successful capture of draxler would drain over half of our estimated transfer budget)

But he's the definition of a limited poacher. I like him alright, though I wouldn't want to spend money on him.

yeah, that has been my concern. it would be super awesome if roles reversed and ManU sold us Rooney because his contract was expiring after next season.

True, but with good service on breaks he could be really good. I agree that we will be hard pressed to find any striker better than Giroud on the market.

Certainly has the build for it. Haven't seen him play all that much though. The LW to ST is a pretty standard Wenger move.

He has the best off the ball movement I have ever seen for a player his age. Two footed, great pace and VERY unselfish.

Yeah, there's not a lot of this type striker available if you add the strong hold up play to speed and build up play.

It's the combination of skills Roma has been trying to sign at CF too (Osvaldo and Destro).

I suppose that Cavani and Falcao both fit this description and Balotelli when he tries.

After that there's a step down to players who have all these attributes. Though I would add that Negredo has beaten out Dzeko by adding all three of these for City so far.

The next step are all younger guys that have the tools but not yet really putting it all together like, say, Mauro Icardi or Victor Ibarbo.

I like the look of Ibarbo. Wouldn't mind taking a flyer Cagliari were keen to sell.

He's not all that consistent for them yet but every 3 or 4 matches he's the most dynamic player on the pitch regardless of opponent and close to unmarkarble.

Calgiari are a selling club but one that always seems able to convince promising players to stay a year or two longer that you would think. I guess that Cagliari itself is paradise on earth may help.

Abel Hernandez is another one that could come into his own but more of a gamble than Ibarbo and you have to deal with their nutty owner Zamparini . . .

This all seems to be moot since the Boss is indicating he's perfectly happy with Sanogo in the second striker role.

After getting on the stick and signing Ozil, looks like we're back to resting on our laurels, personnel-wise.

Will the HC game be on American TV?
