What does this mean? Just a Brit colloquialism meaning "Backs against the wall?" or is it related specifically to soccer?

Who was the genius that put the Mexican goalman in the starting lineup? The guy is 37 years old and 5' 7".

He has started every match. Their better keeper has a commercial running and hasn't played.

Prime my arse. Oliver Kahn was one of the best goal keepers at the 2002 world cup at 32, after that he never regained his former status.
