He must have gotten better in the last couple weeks.

Sweet. Does he realistically make a big difference?

The January camp was always going to be MLS heavy. No reason to not call Benny in.

This sounds like sarcasm. He's been one of the best Americans in the league the past three years and fulfills a position of need. Do you even watch MLS?

I was referring to how Klinsmann missed on this guy. He should have gotten a shot a long time ago.

Yeah, Shane. I have to get your back on this one. I clearly took your statement as a joke.

Another quality midfielder with some creativity. I'll take that.

He only qualifies with the last 3 years comment. He's not been a very notable player this season. He was getting a ton of deserved praise when he and Giovinco were dominating the league in the first half of last season. He fell off a bit at the end of last year. He can probably contribute, but no more than several other competent CMs in MLS.

I didn't watch a lot of Kansas City this year, but when I saw them play Seattle in the playoffs he was clearly the best player on the field. Small sample size, I know, but consistent with what I've seen from him in the past.

Benny was better the previous two seasons compared to this season. That being said, he was still good. He has technical ability, can dribble, and is not afraid to take on defenders. He is very aggressive and prefers to attack right at the defense.

Kljestan, on the other hand, is more cerebral, will survey the defense quickly, and take what it offers. Kljestan always thinks two steps ahead, as soon as he passes the ball he moves to exploit, and that pass will usually be in anticipation of his movement to exploit.

The two are the best #10 options for the USMNT and should have been playing that role for the past couple of years IMO. Each offers a different style of play to the leading attack role.

The bigger news in what Arena said today is that he views Bradley as a 6... and only as a 6.

THANK.

GOD.

I think Nagbe and Lletget both deserve a look, although I think both are well suited to trying to play a possession game and can both play as the 10 or the 8.

If he plays like he did against Seattle, yes. Dude almost single-handedly won the game by himself

I would not be surprised at all if Arena calls up Lletget. Hopefully Nagbe is given more looks as well. I feel that Lletget is more of a winger. The drawback to Nagbe is that he has no interest in defense. Portland put him on the wing but allowed him freedom of movement to drift inside. You are correct in that both have the technical acumen to play a 10 or 8 role.

So Nagbe isn't the best at defense but you can tell he has upped his effort (just like Benny was forced to do). He was played in the more advanced 2 of a 3 man midfield (with Chara behind) for most of this past season and the end of the previous season, where Portland won the MLS championship.

For the US I agree that Lletget is more of a winger. I think he could also move into that 10 role after Benny and Kljestan are phased out due to age.

Frank Lampard was asked to pick his top position players in MLS that he played against. Nagbe was one of them.

High level international football is not the Seattle Sounders.

In my admittedly unprofessional opinion based upon the lack of times I've actually watched Benny Feilhaber play - it seems he's another MLS standout who could help us win some qualifiers (the most important thing right now, clearly). Against real teams, I think he is more than likely to be just another dude.
