Anyone else feel like we won't get the 2026 World Cup?

Voting between us and Morocco takes place on Wednesday and rumors are swirling that France may vote for Morocco as will a majority of the CAF and AFC. That on top of the ceremony happening in Russia - with Putin taking part in the ceremony no less - has me not feeling too good about this even though we're clearly the best option.

I think it will be close, but we'll just edge them out.

In all seriousness:
If the US joint bid loses out on the World Cup we should legitimately think about forming our own footballing body. FIFA corruption has played a part in at least 3 of the world cups spanning from 2010-2022.
Morocco doesn’t have the economic stability, infrastructure, basic human rights, intelligence or tourism needed to host/support a 48 team World Cup. Not to mention that it’s in a fricking desert, just like Qatar.

Anyways if we lose out on this then the US, Mexico and the major (if not all) South American countries should all leave FIFA. It’s my opinion that a United bid losing out would be harmful to the 2030 SA bid, as well as SA overall. We can just make our own damn tournament, and make it damn good.
We have the system in place to host major, worldwide events. We’ve done it throughout the last two hundred years.
Not to mention Copa 2016 was a success.

I don't think Morocco is that comparable to Qatar.

A few weeks ago, I would have said yes. But now I feel pretty confident we’ll get it.

Several African countries don’t like Morocco for various geopolitical reasons, and are defecting to support our bid. All of CONCACAF and CONMEBOL seems to be supporting our bid. It might be close, but we should prevail. Ultimately, FIFA may not like us, but they like money, and the United bid will destroy any previous records for profits. Our bid is by far superior. Political bullshite is the only reason it’s even a contest.

Members can vote for USA/CAN/MEX, Morocco, or None of the Above.

I really don't think the US-led bid will win. I feel like it has been iffy for some time, but Trump's behavior at G7 pretty much sealed the deal. Doesn't matter that he won't be President in 2026.

Personally, I don't think the US deserves to host the premier sporting event in the world until we prove we can compete on an international level.

I hope it goes out to bid again and it goes to, say, Australia and New Zealand. They have a pretty nice infrastructure in place. Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane. Not to mention, both countries are great places to visit.

Trump will play no part in this decision other than being a scapegoat.

I think Trump is a fricking crazy person, but if we don't get the World Cup, it won't be because of him. It'll be because of some corruption BS, and anyone that blames Trump clearly has an agenda and should not be taken seriously.

You can't sit there and say Trump running his mouth hurts our bid, when Russia with Putin is hosting this World Cup and Qatar is building its stadiums for the next World Cup on the bodies of dead slaves.

Do you think the US is doling out the kind of money that Russia and Qatar did?

The Francophone European countries will vote Morocco, but the Telegraph just had an article today saying all of the UK will likely vote for the United Bid as will the majority of Europe.

We’re getting some African defections, more so then they are getting from the Americas.

I haven’t seen anything about Asia leaning Morocco, but if they go Morocco heavy then yeah we’re in trouble. But I think they’d have to go 70-75% Morocco to swing it.

Seems like we have some work to do with our rainbow numbers. Should have rainbow uniforms in Morocco.

FWIW, there really arent any travel advisories. Just dont go blasting the fact you are an american everywhere.

Voters should have to come out and explain the reasons why they voted for their choice.

Would solve a lot, imagine all these FAs with a couple of million in their back pocket trying to explain why they picked Qatar

Or just have weighted voting... fricking stupid that countries with 300 total people have as much representation as US, China, India, etc.

While I agree in principle, the stuff I've been reading says we've made the most inroads with poor, sparsely populated countries. Those countries need money any way they can get it, and the potential for a 48 team expanded tourney in the US with US marketing is huge, much bigger than Morocco obviously. And thus the much needed piece of the pie that will go to those backwater FA's will be correspondingly much bigger.

Why should China and India count more?

I don’t feel good about this at all.

Has anyone seen the odds anywhere?
