Lots of penalties are being awarded via VAR. I hate seeing so many penalties in games but I do feel like this is going to be a learning curve for some players...they'll have to learn that the dirty play that they've usually got away with in the past is a lot more risky. Hopefully this is good for the game in the long run. The thing I don't like about it is that looking at things in slow motion can sometimes distort the reality of what happened. It also seems like there is not enough structure on what can and can't be done via VAR.

Probably.

I can't really think of a penalty that was given that shouldn't have been.

The penalty given to Tunisia yesterday was iffy in my opinion

Walker was careless. I had no problem with it being given.

As a Liverpool fan I’m not used to seeing penalties called. It’s refreshing to see a clear foul in the box called correctly and a penalty awarded.

That is the stipulation for a penalty after all. It’s a foul that occurs in the box. EPL refs will call a foul in the midfield and then swallow the whistle if the same foul occurs in the box (unless a Brit is being fouled). Pretty maddening.

I thought that penalty awarded to Sweden against South Korea was pretty bullshite.

What did you have an issue with? Seemed like a very clear cut penalty to me.

Yeah. And Sweden should have had another penalty earlier.

I just hope that it doesn't result in even MORE diving in an attempt to get a penalty.

That's what VAR is for.

It’s very refreshing when we’re used to bullshite CONCACAF officiating that allows all kind of things to go unpunished. The VAR checks have been very quick, too, compared to what I’m used to seeing in MLS.
