I had no idea the draw was this Friday
Holy shite it really is.. clearly I had no idea as well.
while you're still sipping on that morning cup o' joe... we'll be finding out who goes into what group

The latest FIFA Rankings come out on the 31st, and FIFA's website says: "POT 1 will make up Fifa rankings 1-7 + Qatar -- POT 2 Rankings 8-15"
*That'll be 9-16 this year since Italy didnt make the WC and they'll still be ranked in the top 10.
US is currently ranked 13th, it'll be important for us to stay in that top 16 to be in Pot 2 and avoid Pot 3 and a greater % of once again being in the Group of Death

how are the inter-confederation playoffs factored into the draw since the playoffs obviously don't happen before Friday?

I believe they are immediately placed in Pot 4, which means that the group who ends up with the CONMEBOL playoff winner gets a pretty tough 4th team.

oh gosh... can you imagine Mexico being in your pot 4 draw?
(won't even mention the possibility of the worst from Wednesday)

It’s also going to be interesting with the highly ranked teams missing out.
Top 16 is easy enough because only Italy is out.
But then you have
17. Sweden
18. Senegal
19. Colombia
20. Wales
Sweden is out, Senegal we will learn about later this week, Colombia is on the outside looking in, and Wales is in limbo until June (thanks Putin).

Yeah, fortunately for everyone involved, those are really unlikely to happen, and then the playoff is against New Zealand.
The Peru (or Colombia/Chile) option is actually going to happen barring an Australian upset. Hopefully they are the 4 in the Qatar bracket

I'm a little sad about how few based countries are going to be in this World Cup.
Serbia
Croatia
Poland
Japan - marginally based
Also - my Nigeria will claim the spot over Ghana tomorrow

While I admire Swedens handling of the Covid nonsense I must root most ardently for Polans

Got one simulation where we got up to Pot 1. Looks like Mexico and Portugal both loosing with us winning Wednesday could jump us up
It was:
1) USA
2) Croatia
3) Morocco
4) Wales

Africa gets 5 spots?
damn... seems like a lot
tomorrow is the 2nd leg of the final round of qualifying from the CAF
it's 5 home-and-home series with aggregate deciding the winner of each... who advances to Qatar
heading into tomorrow's 2nd leg...
Egypt leads Senegal 1-0
Algeria leads Cameroon 1-0
Ghana & Nigeria are level 0-0
The Congo & Morocco are level 1-1
Tunisia leads Mali 1-0

Wonder if Pulisic or Pefok failing to bury their sitters in Azteca in a road World Cup qualifier cost us top 7…

looking at the African qualification schedule... how intense was the final day of the second round?
I don't know what the schedule was or what matches were going on...
but the final day of Group G play in the 2nd round of qualifiers ended with...
Ghana at 13 points, a +4 goal differential, and 7 goals scored
South Africa at 13 points, +4 goal differential, and 6 goals scored
South Africa & Ghana must've been pressing so hard to get 1 more goal in the net at the end of the 90 to advance to the 3rd round

I think we'd still need Portugal to lose Tuesday

I must have thought they lost in AET last week, my bad.
