Said this before but I like how they formatted the group stage.

We already know the 8 teams advancing from group going into matchday 3 and all the top 2 in group are playing each other for position now. You got the top 7 concacaf teams left that are all in the final round of WCQ and Qatar who are the reigning AFC cup champs over Japan.

Real competition begins today.

Last night was the best match of the tournament

In terms of intensity, quality of play and that atmosphere was amazing

I agree. Group D was the most competitive group with 3 good teams rather than 2 like the rest. I was impressed with Honduras and Qatar and Panama hung with both of them.

I’m kind of expecting Honduras to be the 3rd best concacaf team now.

I watched highlights of the Qatar Panama game and was impressed with some of Qatar’s play. That Afif guy is legit.

Technically group A and D still have two teams that are battling for 2nd. Mexico/Trinidad in A and Qatar/Panama in D

Panama and T&T both have to make up GD of 5 so Qatar and Mexico would really have to shite the bed to not advance. Panama has an outside shot since they could go and score a ton against Grenada

All it would take is something like a 4 goal win by Panama and a 2 goal loss by Qatar. Quite doable.

I’m so ready to watch El Salvador sit 11 behind the ball vs Mexico and grind out a 0-0 draw to win the group

Yeah, I saw Jon Arnold tweet that and it floored me.

Props to El Salvador taking over Dallas like that.

El Salvador will be down to 10 men before the half. Ceren on a yellow already and flying into tackles still.

That’s the Darwin Ceren I know.

Six minutes in, and he’s already tried to injure two Mexican players out of the game.

This will be no easy task for Mexico.

Say what you will about the quality of the Gold Cup, we’ve had some awesome, exciting games so far, and it’s only the group stage.

Even the bad teams are bad in an entertaining way, like the Grenada GK doing a Cruyff turn in his own box to concede a cheap goal.

El Salvador is impressing me with their composure 22 minutes in.

Also, it's a shame Josh Perez is no longer a part of the USMNT because we could really use him as a winger right now.

Obviously, he made the right choice in terms of getting more chances to player international soccer because he's not beating out our first choice wingers, but I just want to be greedy.
