Especially Davies.
Counts as homegrown for Premier League but takes a foreign spot for Champions/Europa League because UEFA doesn't recognize Wales as part of England

their transfers have been SO frickING BAD the past 4-5 years. they have a very old club (acquiring Pjanic doesn't help) and Griezmann has been an utter disaster.
Has Griezmann really been bad? Also Dembele cost 120 million and is constantly hurt.

He’s one of those player that you think is a lot older than they actually are

he hasn't lived up to the price but (1) they were spending that Neymar money and (2) he's 23 today
Griezmann is TWENTY-NINE!

effectively. there are rumblings the squad (primarily Messi) phase him out and won't pass to him
Dembele, Coutinho, Griezmann, De Jong, and Malcolm have all been bad-terrible. combined that's what? 450M euros?

De Jong was masterclass in UCL the year before he joined. He looked to be one of the best players on the pitch regardless of what team they were playing. I wonder if some of these young guys just struggle with how to play with a superstar like Messi.

Messi seems to be the issue
it's funny how the Barca/Messi and Real/Ronaldo argumnets of the late 00s have now effectively flipped
Barca is the big spending failures and Real have primarily recently invested in youth, and Messi is now the egotistical dickhead acting like a black hole sucking in all the good things that lead to major success

Messi's playstyle is the problem. Barca have bought talented players but the majority of their transfers are for players who occupy the same space.
Messi, Coutinho, and Griezmann all drift inside and play through the middle. There's no width when you have guys doing that. Another issue is Barca don't have a RB who can get forward like Dani Alves to provide the width once Messi drifts inside.
They also need to drop Busquets and let Frenkie assume that role. I personally think FdJ is better in a double pivot but I doubt Barca are gonna move away from a 4-3-3 variant.
Then of course you have the aging squad issue that others have pointed out. The Griezmann transfer is a puzzler for me, he's excellent as either a false 9 or a second striker and Barca can't play that way offensively with Messi. Something's gotta give

Sounds like its their transfer strategy thats the problem..

it's both
Messi is still great enough and a huge enough icon to get to play "his way" that it makes finding fits almost impossible
but playing a bunch of wings who want to drive in as second strikers will only work under certain circumstances b/c that's Messi territory (why he wants neymar who made it work)
now, why Barca spent all that money on Griezmann after a 2-year courtship? I have no idea why they thought that was a good idea

LEEDS STILL KEEN ON WHITE
Leeds United remain keen on signing Brighton defender Ben White.
But we’re told Brighton have made it clear the player is not for sale - and no price tag has been put on his head.
Leeds have already had two bids rejected - the latest for £22m.

SAINTS IN TALKS OVER McKENNIE
Southampton are in talks with Schalke over a £20m deal for midfielder Weston McKennie.
The deal may remain on hold for now however while Southampton look to trim their first team squad following their recent purchases of centre-back Mohammed Salisu and full-back Kyle Walker-Peters.
Sky in Germany have reported that personal terms are yet to be agreed but McKennie wants the deal done as he is keen to test himself Premier League - he turned down a move to Hertha Berlin for that reason.

Probably a good place for him to end up. Think he can excel in the Bundesliga. At Inter he wasn’t terrible, but just not very impressive.

I just don't see him starting for Gladbach at any position this season.
