My guess is this is in anticipation of more games next season + injury insurance as I don't think LVG likes his current back-up too much.

United has some good GK's

and the potential future England #1 just came through our youth academy and is on loan

The Ched Evans saga continues, this time with Oldham rethinking their move and saying no.

No word yet on whether Evans is still taking it as a yes.

Unrepentant rapists who believe themselves to be the victim deserve to be made fun of, at the very least.

I only casually follow soccer so excuse me if this is a dumb question, but why is Inter taking him on loan with the obligation to buy at the end of the season? Why wouldn't they just buy him outright now?

It's usually just for accounting reasons when there's an obligation to buy at a set price, simply having the transfer fee count in a different fiscal period.

I haven't read the details of this deal but Inter has been having some issue keeping inside FFP (Financial Fair Play) parameters and that would be a likely reason for postponing the payment in their books.

Liverpool wanted Valdes and there was an offer from Juventus, too. He didn't feel right about either club, especially Liverpool even though their goalkeeping situation is far more fraught than United's and he could have been a realistic first-choice custodian.

In the end, Valdes felt better about Manchester United, in part because he knew Van Gaal and United's goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek. United welcomed him in October with a view to him training well, then passing a medical and signing for the club. Valdes accepted United's offer.

Liverpool another swing a miss

Wolfsburg have made a €30m bid for Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle.
Jose Mourinho has underlined that the German international needs to improve his physical shape and the striker has been placed on a fitness program to help cope with the rigours of the Premier League. World Cup winner Andre Schurrle has seen his opportunities limited this season, having started just five Premier League games. The 24-year-old suffered with a mystery illness early in the season which he believed contributed to his poor form and he remained a peripheral figure over the festive period. In his last two appearances for Chelsea, against Southampton on 28 December and in the FA Cup third-round victory over Watford, Mourinho opted to take him off at half-time. Ambitious Wolfsburg sense a deal can be done and want to test the Premier League leaders resolve. They believe Schurrle, who joined for £18m from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013, is keen to move.

Schurrle is being Kevin de Bruyned. Wolfsburg will benefit again. Mourinho is probably the best manager on the planet, but it must be nice to have the luxury of being able to push out world class players because you have so many on the team.

Brendan Rodgers admits Liverpool face a challenge to lure stellar names to Anfield this summer as he seeks to fill the void left by his captain Steven Gerrard.

quote:

“Last season, after nearly winning the league and qualifying for the Champions League and playing a game that excited people, we were in a great position to attract a high level of player,” Rodgers said.
“We have to believe that the status of this club and the idea that the club moving forward will make players still want to come here. The team has changed and the players have changed but the great name of Liverpool is still the same. For a lot of players it’s two things – game time and money, simple as that. That’s the way of the modern game – how often are they going to play and money that they’ll earn.

quote:

“There are cases when players will forfeit the financial side to come to a project that they feel they can play a big part in. It’s difficult of course because players will opt, for whatever reason, to go elsewhere. Some may prefer to go to Spain, some to London. But you just have to keep working and finding the players who can make you the best you can be.

Which goes against when he said this

quote:

“That ability to attract top players is great,” said Rodgers. “It’s a huge
indication of the progress of the club, a really good symbol of where the
club is at. We have made huge strides in the last couple of years."

Pretty funny after he said this

quote:

The best players want to play in the best competition," said Rodgers."Any club will suffer the same when they're not in there. It will hurt you, but they (United) will know that."
United are used to regularly performing in Europe's elite club competition but this season risk missing out for the first time since the 1995-1996 campaign, when they played in the Uefa Cup.

Schurrle and de Bruyne are not world class players.

At first, I read this as "Wolverhampton" and wondered how in the frick they could afford a fee like that.
