I agree with you. Romelu doesn't. He really thinks he should start at striker every match for a major team. While you have to admire his confidence, he's not ready for that.

so mourinho couldn't rein him in at all? seems pretty odd to me that he would feel pressured to sell by a kid under contract.

And under contract for another 4 years...

Well when "The Special One" runs out Et'o, Demba Ba (who i like BTW), and Torres can you blame him?

"The Special One" didn't buy Torres or Ba, and signed Eto'o to a one year stop gap deal when Romelu again insisted on being the starter somewhere.
"The Special One" signed Diego Costa this year, who is an all around better player than Torres, Ba, Eto'o and Lukaku.
I think he wants Romelu to stick around and be the 2nd striker. Romelu has never been cool with that idea. What do you do?

Yeah, £24m plus Lukaku's wages, and a new deal for Ross Barkley, in the last 24 hours. That's a lot of cash for them.

tell him chelsea owns his rights for four years so he really has no leverage to force his way out. or you could be sweeter and just say a guy with a hammy issue (which seem to come back more than most injuries) is the number 1 striker and you're an injury away or cup match away from staking your claim to the no. 1 striker spot at a UCL club. something doesn't add up and it's jose/chelsea spin whichever way it goes, really. he probably just doesn't rate him but doesn't want full revolt from chelsea fans.
and bhoy, they've spent 24m pounds on Lukaku, ~3m on Besic, Barry on a free...not like they're going wild. they wouldn't be dire straits if they missed the CL this season.

Lukaku's contract expires June 30th 2016.

Jose came in and almost immediately sold the most popular player, Juan Mata. Then, six months later, he sold David Luiz who was massively popular as well. He let Ashley Cole walk for free. He let Frank Lampard walk for free. We're probably talking the 4 most popular players in the club, gone in 12 months. I don't think he gives any fricks about the popularity of his decisions.

They're def putting all their eggs in the Lukaku basket, but if all else fails and he still has a decent year... they should be able to sell him for a profit, if needed... considering they haven't made any other huge buys and Barkley was already theirs... not a bad gamble..
The new TV money has inflated a lot of team's coffers...

Barry on a free

yes, i realize that chelsea fans generally buy whatever jose's selling. but on this issue in particular, there seems to be backlash from the fanbase which jose never really has dealt with before.
the other decisions make a whole lot of sense (other than mata, which cost him the title, but oh well). i just think after a trophy-less season, one caused by his transfer frick up, chelsea and him need to spin the situation so as to not harm the slightly damaged aura of the special one.
(also, sorry 'bout the contract years. just going off what that one poster said. should have looked myself. a little different, but at least he wasn't running out of contract any time soon)

interesting. i hadn't heard of that. still, yeah, the point is they didn't spend much comparatively, and have past years' sale profits and new TV money at their disposal. they aren't putting everything on red (if red was a CL berth).

Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo is prepared to consider the offers now arriving for him.
The Argentina international has been linked with Southampton, where the Premier League crisis club are understood to have offered €15 million.
Rojo is back in Lisbon after an extended summer break following his World Cup campaign.

What an absolutely ridiculous move by Chelsea. Lukaku has natural goal scoring instincts, and his build up play would improve the older he got. Lukaku has a chance of being the rare goal-scoring striker who can actually be involved in the build-up. He's not very good at it yet, and he has to realize that he has to defend from the front, but his upside is still so high that it's unbelievable to me that Chelsea would let Lukaku go for any price.

he won't be home grown eventually, will he? i think he missed out by 3 months (joined chelsea in august 2011, turned 21 in May 2014). if he was home grown, that might be a bargain compared to some of the other deals that have happened recently. still like the signing for everton.

Hoping Origi turns out as good... £10.5 will have been a bargain!
