This is kind of dumb.

The point is to pressure Mexican business and the Mexican government to deal with the issue.

1/3rd (maybe more) of illegals trying to enter our country through the southern border aren’t even Mexicans. Mexico has a “southern border” issue too, but they don’t do shite about it.

Mexico also loves their lower class leaving Mexico and coming here, making money off our low skill jobs, and then remitting US dollars down there where they arbitrage the exchange of currency. To the toon of around $25B-$30B a year.

A 5% tariff is going to nearly cancel all that out. A 10% tariff would put them in the red.

I hope this 5% tariff applies to outgoing remittances too.

Mexican businesses are going to freak out over this and lay enormous pressure on their governors to do something about their free-flowing borders.

What's really going to be interesting is seeing which lawmakers are going to be screaming the loudest against it.

Why not tax remittances by 50%? Cut off the cash flow back home and maybe it wouldn't attract as many border jumpers.

Loss of revenue from taxable goods is something Mexico will care quite a lot about.

This makes me happy. Wish he had done it sooner but I guess he wanted to give diplomacy and Congress a chance to act on it first.

Mexico isn’t bound by the laws that we are on immigration.

They can stop the flow of immigrants from Cent. America easier. They can just shoot them

Why June 10th? Why not tomorrow? shite like this is why people call Trump a carnival barker. Do it already. Don’t give them an 11 day advance notice. Swing the sword.

Because that would make too much sense. So we can’t do that. That is Mexico’s 2nd biggest economic program.
