Based on the linked graph, it has nothing to do with Trump, or at least not in the way people will assume.
The graph is based on Perception of Democracy, and much of the US decline happened in 2024 under Biden. What also happened in 2024 is the attempted assassinations of Trump and multiple efforts to put Trump in jail.
The targeting of Trump is the cause for the decline, and Politico is trying to spin it as if Trump's presidency is the cause.
Either way, the fact that China leads in Perception of Democracy shows how bullshite the whole thing is anyway.
