Republican primary voters have high interest in Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a potential 2024 presidential nominee and view him more favorably than they do former President Donald Trump, a new Wall Street Journal poll shows.

In a hypothetical contest between the two, Mr. DeSantis beats Mr. Trump, 52% to 38%, among likely GOP primary voters contemplating a race in which the first nomination votes will be cast in just over a year.

People on here don't want to hear it, but Ron is the best candidate to actually win

No one that can truly make a difference will win unless the cheating is fixed in a couple swing states.

Do people not realize that there is a probably a 20% portion of the nation that will only vote if Trump is on the ticket? Trump increased vote totals from 2016 by over 10 million in 2020. We all know 80 million did not vote for Biden.

Trump will dominate the primary. But if Trump is smart and he doesn’t let his ego get in the way, he would put Desantis on the ticket with him. That would unify the republican party and bring a ton of independents over. If that happens, I think a Trump/Desantis ticket would be unstoppable.

It would also marry Desantis to Trump and as long as he doesn’t pull a Pence, Trump voters will go for Desantis in the next two election cycles.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Doesn’t change the fact that Trump wouldn’t win in any case.

Maybe he could have in 2020, but no way in hell now.

What "people on here" understand is Trump underwent withering, scurrilous, contrived attacks, and still had to be taken out by a crooked election. There is no guarantee whatsoever that DeSantis can withstand and come through that kind of attack. So backing BDR is a crapshoot.

What "people on here" understand is the MSM (aka Democrat War Room) will go after BDR with the same venom and viciousness they directed at Trump.

Even if this is true, which I disagree with, it's a better bet than going with Trump in '24 who has no shot in the general and could cost Republicans the House and Senate again. I think DeSantis is probably 80%+ odds to beat Biden in '24 while Trump would be 25% odds at best. There is just no way that Trump is going to win back AZ, WI, or GA in '24, while DeSantis will be a strong competitor in those states.

I'm sure DeSantis will do very well when he runs in '28.

How were Trump’s endorsements in competitive races? No, he doesn’t deserve credit for hopping on the bandwagon of unopposed candidates and those running in R+30 districts.

Maybe. They will have a lot less to work with though because Ron doesn't constantly step on rakes.
