I'm perfectly fine with having trained and qualified armed personnel in schools. My son's school has an armed officer. Wouldn't mind a few more working there during school hours. They do usually have a couple of extra cops during dropoff and pickup.

Is it a deterence? Will it keep a shooter from entering?

This school had one. The coward that that stood back and heard kids getting shot.

Anyway, this shooter probably knew there was an armed resource officer in the school, but entered anyway. I think most kids know about the resource officers in schools. It didn't seem to deter in this situation, but it could in others.

One armed officer who patrolled a school the size of a small college.

Notice how he didn't go where he knew the SRO was.

If you don't know who may be able or where they may be it can be a deterrent

He was a sheriff deputy, if you're going to pretend that his behavior is representative of everyone else in his position you might as well be advocating for disbanding the entire police force.

In other words, that's a fricking retarded point to try and make.

Most schools have armed LEO's today.

I would prefer that they're stationed close to the entrance of the school and all other doors locked for the outside/still allowing them to be opened from the inside, so that shooters can't enter from any other door from outside the school.

Having a three year old son that isn't in school yet, even knowing that shite like this is rare, things like this concern me.

You ever see the Matrix?

If you were intent on attacking a school, the armed guard is the first person to get got.

Knowing that several people are armed should be a deterrent. The reason why these crazies pick places like schools is because they know they are easy targets where they can take out a lot of people before they, themselves, are taken out. If they suspect that they will be stopped early, they will most likely try to avoid the place and find somewhere else to wreak havoc.

My understanding is that there would be several teachers carrying, moreover I can only imagine that one of the policies would be that they weren't allowed to tell the students they were the ones carrying.

Very easy to call someone a coward from behind your keyboard when it wasn't you in this person's shoes.

In the context of this thread, the pussy actions of that officer is irrevelent.

I want armed officers in schools. I think 99.9% of officers would've taken action.

So chill with the attitude.

The dude's a cop. Did he think his job was to fold clothes or clean bathrooms. He's an armed sworn officer and knew exactly what his job is there.

So yeah, he's a coward.

There’s no way to know if Cruz knew the school had armed security.

I think these shooters must have some delusion that what they’re planning to do isn’t awful, otherwise why would they do it. And if they’re that far gone I don’t know that their behavior is predictable. But I’m not a head shrinker so what do I know.

Yeah, I have no idea if he knew or not, but I lean toward yes. The resource officer at my son's school walks around with his on his belt. Every kid sees it.

But yeah, can't be 100% on that answer in the Florida school.

I want the armed guards to carry ARs if you knew a guard had a 9mm and you had an AR many would take that tactical advantage and most likely win it. But if the guard had an AR then it evens it out and if you knew that guard had training and you didn't that does not put odds in your favor.

Most likely.

Would you prefer a train shooter or a 5 min response time from LEO?
Just because a pussy in Florida couldn't do his job, it doesn't mean someone else couldn't. Put vets in that position and see what happens.
