Yes, anyone should be able to research to confirm by GDP the US has the largest economy with China second. Other measures, such as purchasing power indicate China has the larger economy and China’s economy continues to grow at a faster pace than the US.
Manufacturing, China is the king and depending upon reference source, the gap between China and #2 US is significant (almost double) and growing.
So, it’s not quite as clean, simple as you present in your suggestion of acceptance of the status quo
After all that... Who has the upper hand of tariff negotiation here? We're going to essentially tax our nation to fight China? Why not simply target goods from China? Why target EU?

Yeah. Nobody said that trade wouldn't benefit both parties to the transaction.
Oh no you don't. Stay on topic. China is about to enter High-income per World Bank and they have done it using tariffs. In 1981, 97% of people in the Chinese countryside lived in extreme poverty, and even in cities, it was more than 70%.
By 2020, the share of people living in extreme poverty in both urban and rural areas was below 1%.
All of that is per the World Bank.
I said nothing about who would or who wouldn't benefit from trade. If you are going to talk to me and expect a response, stay on topic. I have no issue putting you and Roger back on ignore.

Again, we are already discussing this in great detail.
I posted a chart and summary for you from that thread, here.

Why do you care about this, then?

China benefited. Who cares?
We benefited too.

Let me ask you this.
If China is "high income" according to the world bank, what are we in the West?
If we are higher than high income, how are they fricking us?
If we are higher than high income, how are we "failing to be great again?"
Answer these without deflecting.

Oh my god, you are one special little boy.
Let it be known that Roger disagrees with the World Bank.
- The dumbest thing you have ever suggested is that if the USA places tariffs, we will go backwards in time to when we were poor. DATA all around you shows you are just dumb! No nation has reverted to the dark ages by using tariffs.
And ignores things he can't answer

Are you saying the World Bank is wrong?
Relatively, yes.
So do you. This is "globalist" organization after all.
In relative terms, China is not upper middle class.
You are stupid. As in can't learn... not capable of learning. Not ignorant, but stupid.
When you look up what makes up a nations classification per the World Bank, you let me know and we can continue this.

I would advise against it. It’s likely bad for your health.

No you didn't. You are, with purpose, ignoring it to continue to peddle your ignorant takes.

China benefited. Who cares?
We benefited too.
We benefited LESS and we lost a lot of our own capabilities which puts our nation at risk.
The 2 of you with your lap pups run around every thread making arguments out of ignorance.
In one breath you claim "China benefited from our trade, but we did a little too" China has risen to 2nd in the world by using tariffs and other barriers. Per you and Roger that's not possible.
You and Roger claim that tariffs placed by the USA would make us POOR because.. "because I SAY SO DAMN IT!". You are ignorant.

High income
The World Bank classifies countries into four income groups (low, lower-middle, upper-middle, and high) based on Gross National Income (GNI) per capita
China started just 30 years ago in LOW.

If we are higher than high income, how are they fricking us?

When you make an effort to know what you are talking about, let me know. But just in case you need help... Once again:

Go look at the chart. Not really. We separated into our own separate tier of world economies and out-pace all the other developed/major economies bigly except Australia. Do you want to know what the common factor is between the US and AUS in this discussion?
quote:
The 2 of you with your lap pups run around every thread making arguments out of ignorance.
My chart is literal data, the opposite of "ignorance"
quote:
Per you and Roger that's not possible.
Strawman. I never said it's not "possible"
We should be thankful China was stupid enough to rely on tariffs or else their GDP would be even larger and development higher.
quote:
You and Roger claim that tariffs placed by the USA would make us POOR because.. "because I SAY SO DAMN IT!".
No. A lie.
They would make us poor by redistributing our money from more productive areas to less productive areas (often areas that aren't economically viable without subsidy, creating major economic inefficiencies).

So, are we better off than China? I'll dumb it down for you

Irrelevant. Per you and slow mo, China should have never made it to the point they have because tariffs results in the opposite.
The fact that we had a 100 year head start on them makes your argument ignorant.
