The U.S. military/intelligence already has autonomous drones using AI, some the size of private jets and larger. They've had them for years now. They take off, fly, and land completely on their own.

I believe we will see pilotless aircraft in our lifetime. Probably sooner than later.

Whoa! We could soon have plans that fly on auto while the pilots sit around flirting with the attendants. The future will be so crazy!!

There is a Honda jet that has an auto return function. If the pilot is disabled, you just press a button. And the aircraft lodge itself to the nearest airport and lands

Cirrus championed that technology and were the first to utilize it. They have long been on record in stating their goal is to eventually remove pilots from the cockpit.

Yeah of course. But this story has nothing to do with AI. It’s just a regular autopilot like every other airliner has. I fly long haul freight and can go hours without touching the controls except for a light that will pop up every now and then saying “pilot response.” Which just means I have to push pretty much any button in the cockpit to remind the plane that I’m awake.

Yes, they will basically be drones. Will be much easier than cars.

Yes and it's not as far off as people want to believe.

For the civilian market, it won’t be the technology but the regulatory environment and the unions that will hold it back.

Yes, but with two in the cockpit. A middle aged man and a German Shepard. The dog’s job is to bite the man if he touches anything.

You'll see Palantir, Anduril and a few others lead the way there and try to supplant the current defense primes as the new warfare apparatus

The latter was on 60 Minutes last night and the episode featured their pilotless aircraft.
