Seems like if you're the type who is prone to drunk driving you just buy a cheap tuner, plug it in and defeat it.

My vehicle has super cruise that is able to completely drive on its own, change lanes, use signals, maintain posted speed, etc. However, it will disengage if you look away from the road.

Sounds great, right? Until you factor in that looking away from the road includes looking into rearview and side mirrors, looking at navigation screen or looking out side window at a pedestrian to make sure they aren’t moving into the roadway.

This sounds good but will be a disaster.

What happens if a sober driver picks up 3 drunk people to drive them home? Sensors would pick up their alcohol in the air

used car and part prices would skyrocket. It is a terrible idea and should never, ever happen. At most, do something like this only for those who have previously offended.

Against. By a mile. Should we install throttlers as well to reduce speed? This is overreach if instituted.

I agree however the reality is that the driverless car revolution will make all these issues moot.

What if you did a double rinse of mouthwash that contains alcohol?

If the technology were used for purely good intentions and as a option for the owner of the vehicle, I wouldn't mind the technology existing. But politicians can't help but make things like seatbelt laws.

I could see a business owner with a fleet wanting the technology to prevent employees from driving drunk, or someone who drinks routinely wanting to block their path to making that stupid decision. But strictly on a voluntary (at the vehicle owner's discretion) basis.

Given our politicians' desires to control our every day lives, I'm opposed to the technology even existing.

This is why I want to go the opposite direction of getting an EV. I want to get an older diesel truck with no electronics... or minimal electronics. Just give me air conditioning and heat and I'm good. You can fairly easily convert the diesel engine to a dual fuel engine that runs on diesel or vegetable oil with the flip of a switch. All this new technology in vehicles has been developed so they can track you, they can kill your vehicle etc. You make a mean social media post? You're car is shut off for 30 days.

F that noise.

Just a guess but you could probably trace whatever company is working on this technology to the politicians/lobbyists who had it put in that bill and it will all make sense.

Well, maybe add a CD player which I did to my '94 F-150 XLT. Too much electronics on modern vehicles and I certainly don't want Big Brother having more control! All my daily drivers are 2009 or earlier and I have no plans to get anything newer and I certainly don't want an EV!

Not to mention the added cost of it to new cars.

One of those costs that would keep on giving as they would have to be checked annually so there were no work arounds.
