If the state wants to recognize them fine but if they force or by tax coerce religion into changing doctrine then they are infringing on religion and unconstitutional in doing so.

So forcing the Catholic Corporation (insert you favorite religion in here anywhere) to pay taxes would infringe on freedom of religion.

Well shite, my freedom has been infringed on for decades then.

Tax exempt status for churches not only protects them from gov't interference but it also protects us from them with regards to unecessary religious influence in areas they shouldn't be in.

That's simply freedom of religion and freedom from religion.

You're way too biased for this discussion with your hatred/dislike of religion.

the church of the age before the end times (in other words, the one we are in).

It's funny how every generation sees the signs for the end of times. They've only been wrong hundreds of times before, but I'm sure you're interpreting things correctly.

One man does not the average make. I like how you pulled out the .01% I admitted do use the church to make money.

How do I know? My dad has been a pastor for 28 years. His best paying church? $86,000 total package including free housing in that, pastoring a church of 650 members. I personally know hundreds of pastors. I have met at best 20 guys who make over $100,000 a year preaching the gospel. The church is not this giant evil entitity soaking up money for the head pastor to be a rich man. Pastors do not even run the finances in churches. They have a treasurer which answers to the board. Which answers to the congregation.

I will say however that if the church did it's biblical job better there would be no need for government run healthcare. I am in no way saying the church is perfect. Just saying the idea that they should pay taxes is ludicrous.

The nations of Europe have a vastly different lineage in their history and culture than America? Is the concept of Western Judeo-Christian dead and buried in the old world? The church is being attacked for hate crimes in Europe. It is in those nations that criminal law is being applied to preachers at the pulpit because their words hurt so so much that they cannot be allowed to be heard by anyone.

If you were actually any sort of Reagan conservative (as you claim), you would have come to this conclusion a long time ago.

I wonder if failure to marry gays will be considered a hate crime one day in US?
