Lara Merchan, the wife of the judge presiding over former President Donald Trump’s “hush money” case in Manhattan, once worked for New York Attorney General Letitia James, who brought the massive $350 million civil fraud case against the former president, with the revelation reviving claims of bias and calls for the judge’s recusal.

quote:

Records reviewed by The Epoch Times show that Ms. Merchan worked for 21 years as a Special Assistant to the AG in New York, including three years under Ms. James. She changed jobs over two years ago.

quote:

Laura Loomer, an independent journalist and popular conservative commentator who on social media shared records that Judge Merchan’s wife worked for Ms. James, wrote in a post on X that this fact represents “another major conflict of interest!”

Various conservative accounts reacted to Ms. Loomer’s post, arguing that the revelation adds to evidence that the judge should recuse himself from the case.

“And this is why they expanded the gag order on Trump,” Paul A. Szypula, a popular conservative commentator on X with over 140,000 followers, said in a post. “It’s even more obvious how biased Judge Merchan is. He has to recuse himself now. There’s clearly at least an appearance of a conflict here. That’s enough in itself.”

“hush money”

Congress had a nearly $20 million slush fund to pay out hush money.

Why aren't any of them on trial?

Wait, let me get this straight.

The wife of the judge presiding over the case brought by the Manhattan DA worked for the state AG, right?

So she didn't work for the agency doing the prosecution over which her judge-husband is presiding?

Not part of business records, to answer your question specifically.

NDAs to protect business reputation and good will (a recognized bona fide asset) sure looks like a legitimate business expense.

It's been a while, but if I recall, the potential issue for Trump is the convoluted way in which he had the money flow to her.

Had he just written her a direct check, or a Trump corp (whatever his entity was at the time) check tied to an NDA, then he wouldn't be facing these issues.

Ok. Is Clarence Thomas biased because his wife is a conservative political operative? This judge is going to rule against Trump. Everyone knows that but I'd wager it's not because of his wife spending 3 of her 21 year career as Special Assistant to the AG in New York under Letitia James.

When the judge’s wife used to work for the AG in question and his daughter is a major fundraiser for the Dems using the prosecution in question to bring in money, it sure fricking raises questions about conflicts of interest.

Cohen already testified under oath to the fact he wrote the check and paid her without Trumps knowledge.

Again, should Clarence Thomas recuse himself from every case that deals with something his wife has advocated for or against?

If HE shows bias during the trial and in his rulings then go after him for that. I just think it's nonsense to go after him because of someone else's work/stance.

Every court and lawyer pursuing Trump through lawfare are separated by 1 degree. Look at the ex Obama DOJ associate AG named Colangelo, who took a demotion and left the DOJ only show up in the SDNY court case against Trump and is now with Alvin Bragg's team.

Conspiracy theory.

There is a huge difference between 1 judge being a group of 9 judges and being the only judge and ag. By the way Thomas did recuse himself from trials that dealt with Jan. 6th. I haven't seen one liberal recuse themselves from anything.
