After all these years, folks havent figured out that if you give government the power to ban the other guy, you're also giving the other guy power to ban you.

TikTok, like X, isn’t a “virtual gulag,” a site that has been marginalized and sequestered by the Left and labeled “far right.”

They aren’t worried about sites like Gettr, Truth Social, and Rumble. They only worry about sites that function as the “town square.” That’s especially true on TikTok, which is fast becoming the number one way all Americans, not just Gen Z, get their news.

That is a lack of control over the message the Democrats cannot afford. They must find a way to shape opinion, even if - especially if - it means censorship. Just like China!

“Totalitarianism is not only hell, but all the dream of paradise-- the age-old dream of a world where everybody would live in harmony, united by a single common will and faith, without secrets from one another. Andre Breton, too, dreamed of this paradise when he talked about the glass house in which he longed to live. If totalitarianism did not exploit these archetypes, which are deep inside us all and rooted deep in all religions, it could never attract so many people, especially during the early phases of its existence. Once the dream of paradise starts to turn into reality, however, here and there people begin to crop up who stand in its way, and so the rulers of paradise must build a little gulag on the side of Eden. In the course of time this gulag grows ever bigger and more perfect, while the adjoining paradise gets even smaller and poorer.”

I don’t mean to get technical, but do you realize how many hosting sites, ISPs, developers, as well as any layer of full stack development and/or APIs are controlled by foreigners?

The problem is they didn’t specify what level of control.

This means two things:

1. Who defines adversary? How is it defined?
2. Who defines the level of control as every single piece of tech, at some level, is controlled by foreign powers.

Foreign ADVERSARY is the applicable term.

Again…as defined by whom? Because every website and app we use has some level of foreign involvement.

You have to start thinking like a lawyer.

That is exactly what the mainstream media does too. Can we ban them?

The wording is vague. It's foreign adversary...not foreign adversary country.

Gives way too much power to the government. The right wing guys on twitter pushing this shite are the same ones jacking off to the Israel war crimes. Probably not a coincidence.

No, it actually isn't. The FCC does not regulate online content.

That’s the crux of the issue. It’s not clearly defined. You would be considered an agent acting on behalf of a foreign adversary. Now all that has to be determined is it any part of your site can be linked to it.

And that, frankly, could be done is minutes with any country.

He’s not an idiot at all.

He’s just too trusting in the system. He thinks it is like it was 30 years ago. It’s not.

Okay, not an idiot.

But dumb and naive to be frantically trying to defend this. It seems weird, he linked his own twitter post.

Re: "X is “foreign adversary controlled"

I'm not sure whether this post is a poor attempt at humor/sarcasm, or if it's WhoopiGoldberg-level stupidity.

To be clear, "Foreign ADVERSARY" is specifically defined in the TikTok Bill.

I will help this guy out because this list hasnt been the same for all of America's existence, adversaries can come and go.

quote:

The People's Republic of China, including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China);

(2) Republic of Cuba (Cuba);

(3) Islamic Republic of Iran (Iran);

(4) Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea);

(5) Russian Federation (Russia); and

(6) Venezuelan politician Nicolás Maduro (Maduro Regime).

russian asset, putin puppet, etc... foreign adversary.
