Sorry. Had to bump, this cant be stressed enough.

Although admittedly, Blacks do use a large amount given their share of the population

The only difference is attitude about it. A lot of rural whites are ashamed they have to use it but rural America has been neglected and jobs have left in droves. But still if the GOP took away those programs without first bringing jobs back those voters would revolt. On the other side, blacks seem to not be as ashamed of welfare and inner cities have a welfare culture that is extremely disintegrating to their culture and communities. There is less desire to do better

I have always been in favor of workfare, but it seems to be hard to implement.

I agree. Honestly, I think what the closing of many traditional plants (papermill, oil and gas refineries, steel and processing plants) has devastated rural America.

I honestly think we should offer reduced cost educational plans to get these people new skills to find better employment to support their families.

As for Blacks, I myself have always preferred working as opposed to using welfare. I think the issue is that welfare has become "too-good". If welfare benefits have a $$$ value above minimum wage work, that poses a problem to the entire economic model at large.

#4: Welfare has not been privatized

I'm a Repub who believes in helping those who are truly in need of help, and I'd like to see these social programs privatized. Until that happens, we cannot simply punt on providing aid altogether.

The reasoning is simple. Any Republican who votes to reduce or eliminate welfare will face TV ads from his next opponent saying: "And Senator G.O. Publican voted to kill your children!"

I'd rather GOP eliminate Section 8. Something else they'll never do.

And welfare, just like food stamps, isn't going anywhere. Too many people benefit and business wants it.

Need a system that sets people up to improve their chances of employment. The current system is a welfare trap.

So many people laud European style benefits, but countries like the Netherlands require training/education.

You know that Bubba Ray and Betsy Sue in the trailer park with their MAGA hats and their gaggle of kids aren't ashamed.
