So taking down statues and/or not displaying them in our city centers as some sort of weird tribute in the first place means we're ignoring history. Got it.
Yep. Guess I'm "this fricking stupid." You got me.

Where was the outrage like 3 years ago? I guess I’m just confused at why it’s all of the sudden en Vogue? I mean honestly, before a couple years ago absolutely no one walked by a confederate statue and thought about ripping it down. Not a soul. Then some loser started a twitter campaign and everyone jumped on board like a bunch of damn lemmings. It’s just sad.
I'll give you that. Part of it is just a result of the zeitgeist now where a sizeable proportion of people get pissed at something and then others demand action. But then again, on some issues, who cares when the "outrage" started? Does it matter whether they were offended when the statues went up during the Jim Crow era or in 2015 if it's a good point?
I've read quite a bit on the Confederacy. I enjoy learning about the war in general. I like tracing my ancestors from Louisiana and learning about how they may have participated in the war. But there's a difference in simply learning about history and appreciating the lessons from it and honoring a side that was clearly in the wrong.

Well, at least you admit it, because it's the truth.

No, taking down statues will right every wrong that’s happened and make people sleep safer at night. Yea, great point.
And where does it stop? Statues? City names? You going to rename Houston? Will the Democratic Party change their name since they were founded by a slave owner?
Why stop at statues? Where does it end exactly?

Why aren't they seen as art and forgiven carte blanche and a message attached and southerners seen as creative, inspired artist? Because 99.99% of people don't realize how immersed they are in a world that is manufactured for them to perceive.

Why do we need to care about the completely irrelevant non-issue of statues? Thats my question.
If you cant see that theyre just a hunk of material shaped in a unique way then idk what to tell you.
Just go scream at the sky a bit to make yourself feel better?
What if a cloud took the shape of a swastika over Cal-Berkeley? Would you want the military to shoot a missile at it?

How is having a statue of Robert E. Lee a good thing?
If it bothers you I am for it

In that case, you should shed half of your paycheck for reparations to TBird. You know, to feel better about yourself n all

May the stolen "Blue Man Group/ humanoid space alien thing" statue from BR be moved onto your front yard.

Pretty sure black people like living in the South more than the North, generally, so they should like Confederate statues as much as anybody else who lives here.
Cool. Yeah, tell black people what they like because it's your turf.

Idgaf whether the confederate white supremacy monuments are in the public square or not, but two things do matter. 1. If they are going to take down a statue, they should replace it with other public art. Public art is important. 2. That statue of P.T. Beauregard that was by City Park in New Orleans was gorgeous. It should be somewhere where people can see it.

Sure, let's erase it... I am sure that it won't happen again after everyone has forgotten it.

The lessons you learned taught you the crystal clean schism of truth between the good side and the evil side in a war which killed more Americans than WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam combined? Really? Lessons like that come from books best categorized as fiction.

If I was a black American I would be proud that my people raised from slavery to be at where they are today. Still a work in progress. Its us crackers that look bad with regards to the slave trade. I'm not proud of what my ancestors did and down right embarrassed how the blacks were treated during the early to mid 1900's.

Why does Seattle have a statue of Russian communist Vladimir Lenin? At least Robert E Lee was an American. And your posts suck.

Isn't it enough for black people to be not reminded of their oppressed history?
Then maybe you should stop the drumbeat then. What does more to "remind" of black folks' oppression: statues, or the Democrat Party?

You’re aware that mostly blacks ran the slave trade inside Africa correct?
