Just because I want the IRGC eliminated doesn’t mean that I think it’s a good idea to start a war right now to do so. I want a lot of things which would arguably good for the world long term but wouldn’t be practical in the short term. Sometimes the juice is worth the squeeze, and sometimes it’s not.

If we have boots on the ground in 3 months with no end in sight and it starts dragging and we aren’t CLEARLY benefiting massively from it, I will conclude this thing was a disaster.

Trump obviously misunderstood Iran's desire for a nuke was greater than their desire for a prosperous country.
Trump miscalculated on the negotiation part, but his stance on Iran has been consistent since 1980.
