Why did the vaccine makers abandon the clinical trial control group?

This is the question I have.
Why?
The only reason I can come up with is that they were trying to achieve only one outcome. That is not science. That's politics.
Add in the fact that you aren't allowed to abandon the control group without approval from the NIH, CDC, and FDA... what are they hiding?

That millions of people who took it won’t see their 60th birthday and will not be able to have kids that is the agenda

Because the control group got the vaccine when it was released. Now they have to infer the results, which means they can declare it safe using data that would not pass peer review

It's not a crazy thought that those who naturally are immune may have better outcomes than the vaccinated in the long run.
In a trial that runs long enough, you would/should see that.

They didn't "abandon" the control group. Lots of the people that were receiving placebos have opted to get the vaccine. So, that data is messed up insofar as follow up, etc.
Not EVERYTHING about this is some nefarious conspiracy.

I can't think of anything more valuable than being able to prove the vaccine over time vs. the control group.

The world is a naturalistic study on benefits of vaxxed vs. unvaxxed at the moment.

Okay. Agreed. But, once the vaccine is out in the public...how do you stop a control placebo person from getting the vaccine? The placebo person does not know they got the placebo. The person verifying the data does not know who got the placebo.
It is called Double Blind and now it is all jumbled. But, if I were part of the study and was given the placebo and CHOSE to go get the vaccine from my local place....now, my results are of a vaccinated but my classification is of placebo.
Again, the deck was shuffled and that is just what happened. Not some decision to just say "frick it..let's ignore the control". the control got tainted

And even if it was practically possible to keep control participants from getting vaxxed, it wouldn't be ethical after a certain point of demonstrated efficacy (sort of like withholding penicillin from syphilis patients in the Tuskegee experiment).

How did the control group know they were control? Not understanding how this study could be set up that way...

They didn't. That is the point. The entire "group" both 'control' and 'active' were eligible to get the vaccine. If you were willing to take it at THAT point (early on) you certainly are willing to take it after the EUA. So, a great many DID get vaccinated. Many of those were of the 'control' group which screwed the situation.
