The Brits don’t use that flag, the English do. The reason the English use that flag is because it’s their country’s actual flag.

I’m pretty sure that the networks put the St. George flag next to English golfers when broadcasting international and major tournaments. Scottish golfers get the Saint Andrews flag and Welsh golfers get the Welsh flag.

Their national team has been using it for decades, its not like our uniforms which have a new design every world cup.
