This was shortly after the expiration of the "15 days to slow the spread" decree - something I hated to see happen but could not in good conscience (having zero expertise or access to reliable data) oppose.
I think the POTUS was proper to support the "national imperative" as a rational response to this now unknown virus. Especially in high density population areas. But '15 days' is not too much of a sacrifice to make to find out more about this thing.
However, it soon became evident that this was just another "crisis to not waste" and I became suspicious of the whole thing shortly thereafter. At that time I had no reason to question the CDC - the NIH - the WHO - et al. They had been in power for decades and not made any oopsies that I was aware of.
I think we have to assume honorable intentions unless we have concrete evidence otherwise. Hell - I even extend that to most politicians. Only recently have I created a long list of "never ever believe anything they say - ever!!!"

I would argue the CDC/NIH/FDA had done plenty to warrant not giving them the benefit of the doubt, but even if that wasn't true there should be an automatic and well-deserved skepticism of the federal government ever doing anything well. There's a long track record of even well-intentioned policies/actions causing more harm than good. I mean, who wouldn't be for a war on poverty? - except you know if the government is in charge, it's going make things worse in the long run.
Also, the Left has America convinced bad shite shouldn't happen to anyone, and if it does that's because someone didn't protect you the way they should. Unfortunately, the sheeple in this regard includes most "conservative."
What if Covid had proven to be even worse than the sober/apolitical experts were predicting? Let's say it legit was an order of magnitude worse than a hard flu. Would that have made lockdowns sensible? I don't think so.

He griped when restrictions were lifted. Thats something he can never run away from.
So he told one governor it’s too soon but he should do what he thinks is best for Georgia.
This is what y’all are bitching about. Not the governors that actually shut down. But Trump not standing in the way of the states.
Oh no, he can’t run away from this.
Y’all sound like a bunch of pussies.
What, y’all must think Biden is responsible for Florida opening back up.

It wasn't a crapshoot.
I'm very happy for you. You obviously have superior intellect compared to literally thousands of medical professionals who were championing Trump's decisions. Trump was not from the "climate change BS, racism BS, cops murdering thousands of unarmed black men BS" clique, so thousands of people thought COVID must be as bad as advertised for him to say it too. I personally know dozens of people who got the vaccine because they trusted Trump's judgment. And I truly believe that he was doing what he thought was right. I do not fault him for that, and certainly won't be calling him "Lockdown Don".

Don't take the easy way out, toos. It doesn't take "superior intellect" to know bullshite when it's staring you in the face. There were far more rightminded people, inside and outside the medical community, that didn't fall for the shite the media and Dems fooled you with. Do yourself a favor and go back to Mar/Apr 2020 in these threads. I was hardly the only poster that understood what was happening.

I don't. I think Trump intuitively knew from early on that what was happening was over the top. He even made comments along this line - "remedy can't be worse than the virus itself" (paraphrasing). He talked about his incredible economy and the need to keep it strong, and it was important for dealing with whatever the virus was bringing on. But he buckled under political/media pressure.
I think Trump had the right instincts, and he certainly knew the assholes cheering Covid on were the same assholes, inside and outside the government, that put a bullseye on his back the day he was inaugurated. I wish he would have gone with his instincts.

Amazing how Governor's are accountable for following Trump's CDC/NIH guidance, but Trump isn't.
Whose guidance did those (Blue) Governors, Cuomo, Whitmer, Wolf, etc... follow with their nursing home murders.
No accountability there, only dropped investigations.
"Trump's CDC/NIH"? You clowns are beyond hilarious.

We all suffered for Trump's cowardly deference to Fauci.
Then surely you were against the lockdowns before lockdowns actually happened?
No one knew wtf was going on - including yourself. He received poor and inaccurate data from Fauci. Which is why Faucis head should be on a stake atop the Empire State Building.

It's pretty interesting the hoops people jump through to make themselves feel better about being so easily duped/run over by the Left.
There were a lot of people, inside and outside of the medical community, that understood the retardation behind lockdowns before they happened.

You realize there were many that understood the "data" was inaccurate at the time, right? I will say that you had to be a little skeptical/distrustful of the media and government(s), because you had to look beyond CNN and the NYT to find credible reporting. I'm not why a conservative wouldn't be skeptical/distrustful 1Q20, though.

This is spot on. Trump told Maria Bartiromo that he didn't fire Fauci because it would have created "a firestorm on the left." He was afraid of firing Fauci because of the outcry of the left. He was terrified of how Jimmy Kimmel and Rachel Maddow would react. I'm sorry, but if you're too afraid to do the right thing then you're a fricking pussy and have no business being President.
Trump is a pussy

'I did it right, because if you do fire him you're going to have a firestorm on the left again, as usual,' Trump told Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartiromo in an interview pre-taped on Friday.

I may be late to the party, The Egg, but did Trump order a national lockdown?
Or did he allow the States to determine each states risk and precautions?
