This is a really good article
I don't see how you can claim this given the state of journalism and fake news so prevalent today.

This is what extremists do. They've already created a mental caricature of anyone not stricken with hive mind, so regardless of what's said, their ears only hear a filtered sjw translation that confirms their own stereotypes. She didn't receive thoughtfully, a single syllable of what he said but rather conducted the "interview" with herself by replaying everything he said through the sjw lens and debating the proverbial strawman.
I don't think there was any single factor that played into this display of foolishness. There's obviously the one that you mentioned but you have to understand that these people look at themselves as the gatekeepers of leftist movements. People like her think it's her duty to take down those that oppose their view and they use their positions of power (I hate that I have to use that mundane phrase) to do it. She thought she was going to bring this guy on tv, dress him down, and be the great heroine. Then there's also the "good tv" factor that we've seen arise as the most important factor in news today (that whole thing looked like it was a Piers Morgan interview). You also have to realize that there is an inner circle in the media and turning against the group think of that circle can get you banished so people like her go out of their way to please the group.

Scott Adams had an interesting take on the interview.
Scott Adams is a con man. Doesn't deserve to be in the same sentence as Peterson

Really good dialogue last night between Jordan Peterson, William Lane Craig, and Rebecca Goldstein (Steven Pinker's wife) on the meaning of life.
Goldstein pretty much ruined any interaction between WLC and Peterson, which was a shame. She was really unnecessary, but I guess they needed a token representative of metaphysical naturalism.
Hmm, a woman ruining a discussion. I'll have to be on the lookout for this in the future.

I don't think anyone is conflating the two

This was culturally, at least in our circles, a very important moment. Not least because of how deftly Peterson handled it when it was clearly an attack on his character.
I’ve been dealing with this my whole life and challenging it at every turn . I never raised my kids to be Conservatives like me , I just raised them to seek TRUTH above all else. Socratic parenting - here is what I think - show me where I get it wrong . And often they will change my mind.
The frustration of being like Peterson or you SFP is that as your argument becomes more refined and more virtuous ( because Truth is Virtue) you are met by the very worst among us with insults , slurs and ignorance. It’s the irony of living a life of ideas and principles, no matter how you read, educate and master a topic you are always met with shrill ignorance that defies description. And it never ends . Because so many people not only can’t think rationally, they place no value on it.

In that interview she was basically 4cubbies

Bizarre interview, and totally worth it to see the PoliBoard come to the defense of an academician.
Posted on 1/27/18 at 11:01 am to Stagg8
To be fair, there are very few worth defending.
Posted on 1/27/18 at 11:02 am to SlowFlowPro
Holy shite that interview was brutal.

The board defends those with a common viewpoint... but doesn’t necessarily respect those who have come to a well-thought-out, opposing view. Basically the equivalent of a bandwagon sports fan that can’t appreciate the sport without their team being involved/winning.

Politics has been dumbed down for the masses. We just elected a TV personality/con man as President.

Which culturally is insignificant. Who care about Bros on a message board talking shite . But the total capitulation Of Academia to Progressivism- now that’s significant and depressing for the culture.
Posted on 1/27/18 at 11:16 am to Lakeboy7
To the contrary- he might be the most real President America has had since Carter/ Reagan. We just actually nominated a seminal transitional American President. Someone who can and is guiding America through sound policy from American Declinism to American Aspirational Society.

Somebody has a downvote but not a refutation. Which is the message board equivalent of this woman , imho . Lots of people running around calling the POTUS a “ con man “ then totally unwilling to entertain another perspective. Their mind is made up and no other possibilities exist .

i always take this as a challenge to break things down into bite sized pieces that these people have to address
it's about communicating
and it shifts with the level of opponent. one of my favorite things to do to a non-ignorant, semi-intelligent person who is just puking out talking points they've been told is to preempt their talking points by saying "outside of [talking point], how can [actual question]?" it's shocking b/c their anticipated gotcha/response has already been spoken (by me)
