But if you want to beat off to Obama's "accomplishment" of returning our deficit to its outrageously high Bush levels, after having racked up $7T in debt over 6 years, go right ahead.

That is exactly what they want. The talking points they are putting out are really weak and thin of late.

It was higher under Obama than Bush for one year. It's fallen steadily since.

Spin however you want, but that's handling the deficit extremely well.

Exactly. Are we supposed to be high-fiving each other.

"Whooohooo! We had record tax revenues and we still have a $483 billion deficit! Yes! We are fricking awesome!

Are we taking crazy pills?

Fun fact: It's still about 50% higher than Bush's highest deficit according to the White House's numbers.

Are you really going there?

7 trillion he over spent.

We borrowed it. Record amount to the debt.

Thats "handling it well"?

I blame them all and us too as the voters but that statement may be the funniest/saddest not sure which, thing I've read today.

1. No one talks policy because the LIVs are too stupid to care.

2. The deficit exploded in 2009 and had been somewhat deduced from obscene levels. So, congrats on getting the deficit to GDP levels back to where they were in 2007?

I'm sure the president has some responsibility for deficit spending but the blame mostly lies with congress. The amount of responsibility a president has on spending is how much they can convince congress to spend or save.

Can you give me an example of where Obama asked or tried to encourage congress to spend less?

I want Republicans to acknowledge that Barack Obama is slashing the deficit on a continuous and consistent basis.

No, he isnt. He has decreased the deficit from a record high to what would have been a record high for any year prior to 2007. So he's better than one year of Bush and worse than the rest of US history.

Hooray.

Idiots.

Did you even read your own article? In terms of 2014 dollars, it has only JUST returned to Bush's highest deficit (FY 2008). Ergo, every deficit under Obama has been HIGHER.

It was actually never higher under Obama than Bush. The 2009 budget was set in 2008, before Obama took office. The 2009 deficit was the high water mark.

From 2010 on, it's dropped.

The premise of this thread confirms that. It's half economic sophistry, in so much as THEY REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND basic economic fundamentals and it's half Obama Fanboy cheerleading.

Yay ! You go deficits! Winning! The last thing they are concerned with are either deficits or debt. They just flail about throwing shite on the wall hoping that if they put enough lipstick on the pig it will turn into Marilyn Monroe.

can you link numbers b.c the deficit is about the same as 2007 levels, actually lower when you factor in inflation.

According to the White House's own numbers: LINK

FY 2014 deficit (estimate): -648B
FY 2008 deficit: -458B

1/2 of 458 = 229
229 + 458 = 687

687 vs 648...

That's close enough for an "about".

YOU ARE A MOTHER frickING LIAR

a) the FY 2009 budget was not passed until after the election, by a Democratic Congress, and with Obama's input (w/ GWB's blessing).

b) the "stimulus" was a "supplement" to the FY 2009 budget WHICH MEANS IT WAS PART OF THAT BUDGET and was passed by a Democratic Congress was signed by BARACK OBAMA.

c) every CR since was based on that stimulus inflated 2009 budget.

Bush actually owns FY2009 due to the way the federal budgets land.
