I'm trying to find the root source/initial cause for a whole generation growing up into white-knights, anti-bully-ists, and SJWs. It's like the qualification to be a millenial/Gen Xer is to be an activist.
It's as if the children in the first generation of integration grew up not having to fight for anything, and their children grew up & subconsciously saw their parents' inactivity and want to be the opposite of them. ???
I have no clue what caused these kids to look for causes.

for the most part they don't have anything to rebel against....my generation had the draft & viet nam....they don't really have anything so they make it up....rebellion is a part of late teens/early adulthood & they just don't have anything....

Good point. The Left and Far Left are mostly comprised of miserable people. There's a reason why lesbians and gays overwhelmingly choose to champion Leftist causes. Same thing with Michael Moore. my son was a perfectly normal kid and then went away to the university of arkansas and his professors indoctrinated him in mathematics and statistics! fancy damned math where they don't even use numbers but weird symbols and squiggly lines!
i've come to believe that math is just a social construct created to make everyone else feel stupid!
anyway JB Hunt hired him as a software engineer before he graduated, he married his college sweetheart (also a math major) he's 25 they just bought a house.
he's MAGA but he does like craft beer.
the ones you see on TV are losers. the ones on twitter are bots.

I agree with pretty much all of the answers, but I’ll add one more: The Republican Party has been terribly disorganized and done a poor job of getting out their message to young people (and other groups, like Asians). I’m speaking from my observations.
