What they WANT to do in any debate is bring up things one by one that they know you'll object to so they can say, "I just want common sense blah blah blah" and they're intransigent.
If you said to them, "OK, well, frick it. Write the law". They're scared out of their minds to do it.
If you say, "OK, I agree to these few things you've asked for.......if I agree to it and we have another mass shooting, are you going to ask for more"..........their answer is 100% yes every time.
Hence, you're back to the reality that THEY aren't actually making an agreement, only you are.

That's still what he wants.
But, he wants to make offers in the middle and if you don't totally buy in, paint YOU as the problem when in fact.......ANY agreement he would make with you is one he fully intends to want to revise if he doesn't achieve 100% removal of gun violence.

I thought he was doing some Zach-level trolling. Then he started defending it and talking about gun confiscation.
At that point I figured he either fricked his way to the other side (ala Colin Kaepernick or 4cubbies), or he started going to the Chapel on the Campus.
