Super expensive and easy to direct stolen taxpayer dollars to their families and friends.

Because a person driving where they want at their own pace in their own automobile is a perfect example of personal freedom.

There is little to nothing a left winger hates more than a person having personal freedom

Like everything else they like, "control". They can control you better and restrain your freedom.

Once they have trains and no cars, they can implement shite like required vaccines to travel, masks, social credit scores. No need to live in rural areas, Bill Gates will take care of farming your soylent green for you.

I’ve ridden Amtrak 3 times. The northeast corridor between DC and Boston works great mainly because it was built by a private company named The Pennsylvania Railroad. After leaving DC heading south across Virginia to New Orleans the train ran out of food and drinks and was not restocked until we arrived in Atlanta. Rode once from El Paso to New Orleans ,made good time across Texas ripping it at 90 per.Crossed into Louisiana and best we could do was 25 mph due to poor track conditions. The US will never have a nationwide high speed rail network because we have to many at level grade crossings.

It’s a federal subsidy for urban communities.

Basically they think rural areas should be completely ignored and depopulated.

Every time they talk about green new deal crap, they bring up high speed trains. What is their fascination with them?

First time I noticed this fascination was way back in 1992 in the movie, Singles...which of course was in Seattle.

It's another handout subsidized by taxpayers who will never use it.

It's not necessarily trains. It's any reason to create a massive boondoggle. The more money you can appropriate to big projects the more money you can legally steal from the tax payer.
