Let's look at it from the opposite point.
Who would the military back if Trump loses the next election to someone like Bernie Sanders and says "I cannot give my power over to some crap commie" and tries to take over by arresting the judiciary and electoral college members.

The majority of soldiers will not attack American citizens. They will defy orders if told to do so. The majority of police, on the other hand, will do whatever the Establishment tells them. There's a reason the "elite" refer to cops as their "dogs."
