The double standards I have seen working in Higher Ed and HR would make your head spin.
Once, we had the division EO give a training class that the division had decided was really necessary to have that level come in to train.
I can't remember the specific subject, but, it was one of those where they give you this giant line about how this particular thing applies across the board and I raised my hand.
I asked. How long have you been in EO? Person told me it had been more than 10 years.
I said, "OK, in those 10 years, how many claims of racial bias have you ever investigated and concluded they were "founded" where the perp was black and the victim was white?"
EO person tried to dodge and say they weren't sure.
I said, "OK, can you tell me how long ago the LAST one you did where that was the result".
STILL couldn't answer.
I said, "that's because if you took every single case ever to turn out that way from every single EO person in the entire army, and filed them............they'd fit in one drawer in Washington DC and you wouldn't be in danger of needing a 2nd drawer".
My leadership loved me......

Of course. It's why racial and ethnic slurs, as well as slurs related to nationality still exist. Hell, I knew 100 Polack jokes by the time I was 14 years old. If you really want to insult someone, you instinctively go to something that's at the essence of who that person is. Something immutable.
